I don't think his shot looks good at all. It's a 1-hand push from his chest and he elevates about 4 inches on it. If there's defense anywhere near him it's going to be bothered.

He plays good defense and gets off the ball quickly on offense. Tends not to make mistakes, so I can see how coaches like him.

But if he can't hit shots or make plays he's capped as a 9th-10th man at best.

He just doesn't really....do anything. Keith Bogans? Is that a good comparison? Garrett Temple?
 
Look at all the playing time the Detroit Pistons gave #7 pick Killian Hayes to figure out how to shoot.

Monty Williams STARTED him 31 games this season because Monty likes defense.

Hayes ended up being released with no compensation for the Pistons at the 2024 trade deadline.

I thought it made sense to trade the pick in our opinions, preferably to open up future picks to help Dame. But there was the weird Dame/Murray connection at the time as well. All I knew is I didn't have confidence in Murray as a draft pick.

All you had to do was watch Iowa to know Kris is not even close to Keegan. Hard to see him being a rotational piece on a contender.

Not only is it push from his chest, he is dead square to the hoop which causes his shooting arm/hand to cross his body a bit. Most players lead a bit with their strong side so their arm/hand are going straight forward. I've never seen so many airballs from an NBA player who can actually make a 3-pointer on occasion.

Murray and Jabiri are around the 26% area, pretty bad. I was surprised TC was as high at 32% on 3's,, given all he does that's acceptable, if he could get that up to 36-37% that would be great. Jabari does more good stuff than Murray at this stage but it would be nice if he could improve his 3 pt shot, Murray does little for me so far at 23, now Rayan at 19 is showing a lot of promise, really hope he gets some significant minutes down the stretch. Matisse has really fallen off on shooting 38.4% from 2 and 33% from 3.

I still like Kris Murray and think his defense is in the range of Camara's but maybe not quite as highlight-creating or apparent to fans.

The shot absolutely needs to come around (and he needs to get more comfortable letting it fly). But this applies to every player on the team right now so he's not special there, at all.

This team needs a magical shooting coach or these guys are going to be out of the league.

but, in their college careers:

CJ McCollum: 3ptFG% = .377....FT% = .825 (4 seasons)
Keegen Murray: 3ptFG% = .373....FT% = .749 (2 seasons)
Kris Murray: 3ptFG% = .348....FT% = .699 (3 seasons)

obviously college career aren't always predictive of NBA careers. But 3-point and FT conversion rates have predicted and translated perimeter shooting norms more often than not. What's hurting Murray right now are corner three's. They account for 47% of this 3ptFGA and he's only converting at a 28% rate. Being a forward, he needs to do a lot better on corner three's

Murray and Walker tend to protect the ball...against Minnie Murray had zero turnovers. Same with Walker...Murray has not played SF though...last couple games he's started at the 2 guard spot. and when Banton is in the gamee we're really tall in the backcourt.
 
It's so refreshing to see the length of Murray, Rupert and Danton on the floor in a Blazers uniform.

My impression of Murray is that he plays smart with good court awareness, he plays good defense for a rook, and he gets good rebounding position. The way he glides effortlessly around the court makes it easy to overlook these things.

His shot has problems, not the least of which is how he sets up and positions his feet and lower body...or rather, how he doesn't. He needs to get hooked up with a good shooting coach this summer and I would expect much improvement next season.

Yeah, Murray should not be starting at guard. Last night he did start at SF with Banton and Simons starting at guards.
They started out well (9-2)
 
Murray with 2 airballs in the first 7 minutes against the Rockets. I think he has got to get his strong side a little more towards the basket or his arm is just going to be coming across his body too often.
