In another thread guy's are talking about listening to the radio in their car late at night.

I listen to either podcasts or comedy CDs.

Was thinking how cool it would be to listen to you guys fire off back and forth at each other while I try to stay awake.

Can't a few of you computer geeks put your enormous brains together and get an audiobook like version of S2.

Would love to hear some of your D&D voices trying to break down our perimeter defense!

Get it done nerds!

Wasn't there a podcast that a few people in here did last year? I remember listening but can't remember if it was just a audio stream or if they did it in a podcast form.

microsoft sam to the rescue

There was a live stream going on, with some pre-recorded segments, and posted as a podcast afterward. And yeah, I'm game.

HCP is probably the best suited for this nerdly pursuit. He at least sees all the good gear while he's delivering coffee to the guys doing the real work.

Seriously, though, who here is skilled at audio production?

How does it fit into S2, which is a message board?

Basically you need an S2 podcast that links here and a few guys that run it with call in conversations or topics gleaned from the msg board. Something along the lines of the Starters at NBA.com. In the past, podcasts linked to the Blazer website were not really done well. Courtside is probably the best now except for the ridiculous gaps in the program that keep you in limbo for half the program length

I'm having trouble visualizing it. If you put a link to a live stream in an opening post, what happens when people scroll down or go on to page 2 of the thread?

It makes more sense to me to record the whole thing and then stream the recording in an opening post. Then people can listen to it and comment accordingly.

Or people can listen live and not post. Courtside live has a live chat during the program, but not before and after.

I think you have a point about the live chat part of it. The Starters when they worked at the Score had live msgs to respond to during the podcast but after the broadcast were limited to comments which they really answered daily. Tas Melas and JD Skeets started in their basement and in my opinion changed the whole culture of NBA podcasting. Their has to be a handful of knowledgeable Blazer fans who could pull of the same thing with out much trouble.

I've talked about this with SPD a few times already.

Maybe what makes sense is for us to gather questions in threads for that purpose. Then go through them in the podcast. So the site is driving the content of the podcast.

People would have a vested interest in listening because it's their questions. And they can respond to the responses, so to speak.

The key to a successful podcast to me is acquiring the talent and not just letting any beat writer or journalist host the show. Needs humor and podcasters with above average knowledge of the game. I have followed the previous podcasts and sadly been deeply disappointed with the formats they've used. The Starters have a 4 man team with two guys hosting, a guy monitoring the twitter, email threads and a fact checker. It works.

I'd like to see if we can't do a call-in kind of show, too.

Man I wish I had the time... I've put together some good podcasts in my time, and used to do a sports podcast with a good friend of mine from the east coast. But ever since the kid came along, I've been swamped.

The guys did a few of those podcasts last year. I joined them once and had a blast!

That was really fun. I think it could work on here with some tweaks, and some creative thinking to get people involved in not only the board but social media as well, with maybe some help from the Blazers.

And also a set schedule... that's key, too! It'd take some doing, but I know it can be done... partnering that up with the Rippys could really bring some good exposure to S2 with those who like to have their Blazer news come from peers.

With the perfect face for radio, you can mutter while you work, if your mike can filter out the mowing sound. But for all-day listening pleasure, I'd prefer Denny's long cut-and-pastes about taxes.

If there is interest in doing it again I still have all the equipment. We did it last year and I got swamped with other productions but if we started now and set a schedule I could make it work.

HCP and I will need an appearance fee this year.

I paid for their drinks last time I was on the show.

This is the truth.

I'm down, if we get a set schedule. I could be more of the less talky guy but more social media prescene (Getting questions out there, 3rd member kind of thing.)

I'm ambivalent; last season, people were pretty inept at actually getting the podcast parts of podcasting done. If you can't get that part done, the whole thing is useless to many of us.

I looked at several options. This one costs money, but it has builtin ability to generate podcasts from the live streams.

Did the free version of it do that too? Because it had the ability to also have 5 concurrent callers... which i think would be more than sufficient.

It wasn't clear to me if that meant 5 people could listen, too.

Oooh. Good point.

Given the nature of what seems to be "in" right now, having the ability to manufacture podcasts seems to be the way to go.
