"Disappointed and deceived. I've always asked for more responsibility on the team but this season they didn't give any chance. Something like that makes you lose all focus, because you don't know what is going to happen next year."

Regarding a possible trade, Fernandez states, "I'm comfortable in Portland but I'm sure I could provide experience and talent to another team."

Fernandez also denies, again, any contact with major Spanish clubs in Barcelona and Madrid.

Another telling quote

If you can't be an important player in Portland, would you be willing
to force them to trade you? Rudy Fernandez: Yes. I'll say
it again: I want to be happy and play basketball.

Nate's shitty offense didn't give any chance, hopefully Sarge Iron's it out this Summer

Really don't want to see Rudy go, he brings something very special and unique to this team

I completely agree with you......but

Rudy had ample opportunity to just make his shots, you cant tell me he took harder 3's than lets say Batum, and Batum not only had a better percentage, but Rudy was thought to be the best shooter on our team.

He can create, he cant ball handle at this level, he cant play D, and if he cant shoot (which is what he did well last year) he is worthless

IMO all of Batum's three's were wide open or totally set

IF we have a low post presence and some ball-movement Rudy will be priceless

Exactly what type of chance is he looking for? Is he looking to be a playmaker/PG type? Because if he is, then he needs to play much better to ever be considered for that position. In general, if you play well, Nate will find a way to play you. The problem being, Rudy played like total ass. I also do not blame it fully on the coach, because I have seen this story before. Before this story was a guy named Sergio, who was "never given the opportunity". Well he went through 2 other teams and might be on his way out of the NBA now. Talk is cheap. Backup your words with action, and folks will listen to you.

While I was one of the hardest people on Rudy these playoffs... I still think he is much better than he showed. I also think that he has been repeatedly put in a position to fail with this offense.

I see people say that a lot. How has the offense failed Rudy? I remember him getting a ton of wide open looks, not only in the playoffs, but this season, and failing to deliver. Do you not agree that in the playoffs, Phoenix basically just let him shoot all the open 3's he wanted, and he didn't deliver? I actually thought Nate went out of his way to try and get Rudy going in the playoffs, so much so that it sank the teams chances of winning. I would have benched him after the first 2 games in Phoenix and he would have never been seen again, he played that badly.

Please, gimme a break, Rudy had a great chance when Roy was out his surgery and when ROY had his hammy probs, Rudy basically laid an egg and Bayless took a lot of his minutes - he sucks and he whines, get his sorry azz outta Por please!

like I said, He didnt bring it in the playoffs... but I dont think Rudy is a spot up player. Sure he hasnt shown he can be a PG type player.. but I see no reason why we dont have him running off screens, and running the other teams defenders tired for at least 60% of the time he is in there. I remember watching Artest try and keep up with him running around, and at the ORL game (where Hedo hit the 3) and defenders were huffing and puffing trying to keep up. At least that way even if he isnt scoring, he is still someone the other team has to pay attention to. If we had him doing that in the PHX series, they would have had to at least pay attention to him, not just leave him open for the 3. Just my 2 cents.

very insightful

Here's the part I didn't like: " Disappointed and deceived. I've always asked for more responsibility on the team but this season they didn't give any chance. Something like that makes you lose all focus, because you don't know what is going to happen next year."

He seems to be saying he lost focus because he didn't think he got enough playing time. This seems to me like he is not very mentally strong, so I'm not in favor of keeping him. Too bad he is hurting our chances to trade him for fair value with this kind of comments

I noticed that too.. then started thinking about it.. why would he say deceived? I wonder if he was told he would have a bigger role, and then lost it and never got it back when he recovered from surgery.

Getting the opportunity to start for Brandon Roy in the playoffs = "not getting a chance".

Go away, Rudy.

I think people have a hard time understanding/realizing how different the media is in Europe.. you hear people talking about going to other teams, not being happy, questioning coaches in the press, etc... all the time. They are very open with the media and all that. Things are done differently, but they are "wusses" when its done here. Try going on ESPN Soccernet and look at the rumors and articles.. you hear it all the time.

Come on wheels, i know what you're saying, but the guy clearly wants out, just like his predecessor Sergio

This is not a slam on Nate, but his offense and Rudy are not a good match.

Nate's offense is predicated on ISO's and little player movement. Rudy seems to flourish in a more motion based offense that allows him to create more. You all know my opinion on which offense I think is better, but the fact is, Rudy doesn't seem to play well in Nate's offense. And since that is the offense we have, Rudy should go.

Rudy needs to work on his fucking game. A quick pull-up jumper from 12-15 ft should be automatic for this guy. But it was not. Hell a pull up jumper in the key would be nice. When his feet are set he is money. (aside from dunking it) But too many of his shots are fade aways. He needs to adapt to the speed of the game or stop blaming others for his weaknesses. His floater in the lane sucks. Spend the summer working on your game instead of playing for Spain.

International ball helps young players mature quickly. But they seem to peak a lot sooner too because they stop working on their weaknesses.

Rudy played very well in Nate's offense last year. This year, given an expanded role since Outlaw was basically gone, he failed.

so he all of the sudden lost his skill?

Do you think he was getting easier shots last year than this?

I would say that GO in the middle for more games last year than this year helped yes. And him not having to be a starting 2 guard last year with a healthy Brandon there, helped with a little bit yeah.

Then why are you agreeing with Mediocre Man in blaming Nate's offense, when you seem to be saying that he can succeed in Nate's offense as long as Oden's a part of it? I'm confused--what's the bigger contributing factor to Rudy's sub-40% shooting: Nate's presence, or Greg's absence?

I did say in my first post in this thread I believe that he has been being used wrong. Nate used him more off of screens last year, but went away from that. That and of course a healthy Greg would make it easier.
