Backup for Nurk?

Nurk is mentally weak.

You’ll get a few monster games sprinkled in with a bunch of mediocre performances from Nurk.

Nurk with his injury history and iffy mental toughness — NURK IS THE BACKUP.

We need a starting center.

Hate to say it, but probably Meyers would've been more helpful than Kanter. At least his three point shooting would've pulled Jokic out and he's big enough to bang with Jokic. If only he hadn't canceled himself...

I dont want a new backup for Nurk. I want a new starting Center. Nurkic is a gifted player who doesnt have the IQ to reach his potential. He never will. He is a good player, dont get me wrong. But you simply cant foul out last night, playing 24 mins. He led the team in turnovers, 6 in 24 mins, from your starting C isn't acceptable. He will always have those really impressive statistical games because he has the raw talent, but I'm not sold on his intelligence.
His 6th foul was unforgivably stupid, this guy has to be the one of the most stupid players in the league.

Nurkic attempts half of his rebounds and passes with one hand. So he fails to complete easy ones. He's lazy, not stylish as he intends.

Kanter is an above-average backup center. If he played the usual small minutes for a backup, he'd be a fine backup. But since he must bail out Nurkic season after season, our backup gets judged by starter standards.

So Nurk is clearly better than Kanter, but you think Kanter deserves more praise? Got it.

Olshey had tons of time to address our depth back when CJ and Nurk were out. It was PAINFULLY obvious that we needed another big, but did we do anything? Nope.

Our bench is what's losing us this series. If you compare the benches it's clear why the Nuggets are winning. Simons is invisible. Melo is the streakiest player on the court and plays no defense. We don't have a big who can stay on the floor.

We’re losing this series because our pathetic defense, particularly 3pt defense, not because of our bench.

The stats also back it up. When we defend the 3pt *decently* we win, when we dont, we lose. Most of the 3pt breakdowns start and end with Damian / CJ giving up dribble drives.

Huh? I didn't compare them at all. But since you asked...

Nurkic has double Kanter's potential, but plays at 50% potential while Kanter plays at 100% (as a starter--since Nurkic returned, Kanter has declined per minute). So they have equal effects on the game, per minute (as starters).

Get a yelling head coach with a non-Stotts, conventional system, and Nurkic might play to his potential.

100% this. Bad interior defense is often times the result of shitty perimeter defense. If the perimeter is soft and penetration is easy, the bigs have no chance. Kanter isnt a good defender. But to make things worse, he plays behind damian, cj, simons, etc. Keep your man in front of you (more often), make them go to their weak hand, anything, just show some resistance so Kanter and Nurk dont have to help 500 times a game.

Denver bench
Monte Morris 28.8 minutes per game - 14.8 PER
Paul Millsap 13.4 minutes per game - 18 PER
JaMychal Green 19 minutes per game - 11 PER

Blazers bench
Carmelo 24 minutes per game - 8.9 PER
Simons 17.4 minutes per game - 11.95 PER
Kanter 11 minutes per game - 5.38 PER

Their bench is outperforming ours, which makes Dame and CJ average 40+ minutes per game. Roco is playing 38 minutes per game.

kanter is averaging 2 points and 3 rebounds per game in the playoffs while the team is hemorrhaging points while he's on the floor. that's his full potential?

I repeatedly said, as a starter. I also said that his per-minute stats have declined since Nurkic returned.

(patiently allowing you to re-read my post...)

During many games this season, Kanter was the only guy making shots consistently. Then Lillard would come alive at the end.

Name the sub center we can get for nothing (as we did him) who's a better scorer.

Nurk is getting bullied.

At least make Jokic try on defense.

Pathetic :banghead2:
