OT Bad parenting leads to a very sad story

I know this girl. She lives in my neighborhood. We have lived here for the last four years and the entire time the dad has acted like a bachelor while his two kids continually got in trouble. Every time he would go out of town they would throw massive parties. We and our neighbors have had to call the cops countless times. He has two kids. A son and a daughter. The son is the youngest and he has been in and out of Juvenile Corrections for the past few years. The daughter dropped out of high school and has been dating the douchiest guys I have seen. We are pretty sure they were dealing because they would have strange cars show up at all hours, pick something up or drop something off and then leave.

Apparently the mother took off years ago and is not in their lives. I feel horrible for the girl who died, but I also feel very bad for the girl who was driving because her parents let her down. That's not to excuse her horrible judgement, but I wonder if her life might have turned out differently if she had parents who actually gave a shit.

I'm so sorry. A cousin of mine was killed by a drunk driver. He was 19. His folks never recovered.

Amazing how the person who caused the accident always seems to walk off with minor injuries.

The reason is they dont stiffen up right before impact. The alchohol keeps their body fluid like rolling with a punch.
Had a do tor explain this to me when i hit a suicide attempter on the highway and was stunned that she was released from the hospital before i got there to see how bad she was.

That's actually an old wives tale, and was a similar argument as to why seat belts are bad. They keep you locked in instead of forcing you to roll with the punch. Statistically speaking there is no difference in mortality rates for driver vs passenger. It's just that when the driver is drunk and doesn't die when a passenger or people in the other car do it makes us notice more.

When a body doesn't stiffen up it can mold to the impact better, thus not snapping legs, bones, etc.

I generally go with physics and momentum of the vehicle. Incredible amount of force at an incredible speed. And the point of impact.

I think more in those terms rather than the pliability of a person's body.

I would think in this case it was the passenger side of the car being completely destroyed that led to one person dying and the other getting off with small injuries.

Now you are catching on. I get my car drunk all the time and bounce off shit late at night. Never had an issue.
