OT Baseball and Football Coming to Portland?

I actually agree with the premise of putting it in town but there simply isn't room. You can tear down the Memorial Coliseum to try and make room i guess? And if you do you must figure out a way to park. People drive in this town. plain and simple.
Where do people park for Blazer or Timbers games? Baseball stadiums are simply not built surrounded by parking lots any more. That is why you put the stadium on a transit hub. You park out at the park and rides or other parking garages throughout the city and ride the train/bus to the stadium. You hardly see any traffic after a timbers game is over and there is literally zero parking by the stadium that currently holds 22k+ and is expanding.

Also, the MC is a possibility. The PPS site just behind the rose quarter used to be a possibility although I am not certain if that has changed. Both are city owned.

This is where it should be. Makes the most sense IMHO.

Portland Roasters (Brewers is taken) and it has double meaning... For the Stadium to fit the Portland landscape it needs a blue tarp roof.

How much room can be had by taking down the MC though? Because baseball stadium are freaking huge, they seem to need more space than any other sport.

Lumberjax were our Lacrosse team if I remember correctly.

The obvious name for a baseball team would be Portland Reign.

It can happen.

In the first photo, what is the white building right on the river?

Also, as long as they have PLENTY of parking, that would work. I think they want to avoid facing the sunsets..so having Mt Hood in the background, if possible, would be ideal.

Hard to have Mt Hood actually visible from a stadium by the river

Looks like they widen the street and make an underpass (just speculating). It could also be parking above the underpass. TBH I'm not sure.

They probably wouldn't have to make changes to the road at all just "Float" the stadium.

This thread might be more useless than the Melo thread.

But I'm way more happy with baseball to Portland, than Melo

the difference is, MLB has actually said they are interested in Portland as a possible home for a MLB team.

Melo never once mentioned Portland.

What a terrible view of that lovely industrial facility, whatever it is.

Not sure if anyone posted this:
Former Blazers announcer part of group working to bring MLB to Portland

A new group that includes a well-known Portland sports figure is looking to bring Major League Baseball to Portland.

Former Trail Blazers' television announcer Mike Barrett is part of a group that is also developing plans for a stadium.

"There is also a formally organized, sophisticated and seasoned management group running this initiative," said John McIsaac, a spokesman for the group, who emphasized it is a management group, not an ownership group.

McIsaac wouldn't divulge other details of the group's makeup or goals.

Talk about a possible Portland MLB team has heated up recently, following comments from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred last month that Portland is a viability expansion city.

"Portland would be on a list," Manfred said according to the Seattle Times. "I think Portland is a possibility. You can think of the prospects on the West Coast probably as effectively as I can."

On Monday, Baseball America reported that there was a group in Portland "with the necessary financing along with support for a stadium."

The city had contended for an MLB team in 2003, when Oregon lawmakers approved a measure that would create a $150 million bond for a Portland stadium. The bond, to be repaid from taxes applied to player and executive salaries, would be available for any new stadium project.

Barrett left the Blazers at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. He wasn't immediately available for comment on Tuesday.

I still don't believe the city/county/state should pay A RED CENT for any of this though. Billionaire owner groups are just that, billionaires. Pay for your own shit.

IIRC that thing used to be owned by some French shipping company? Just wondering.

Ha Ha Ha.. 22 thousand.... And the Blazers get 18 thousand. If you are trying to be comical then i guess i understand.
A baseball stadium MUST have no less than twice that. 40 thousand. Now put that by the Rose Quarter in Oct for the playoffs and open up the Blazers season.
You see the problem here. Not even going to add Winterhawks to the deal. Look i already said i would love to see it in the city. But inside the city of Portland you have very few sites. @SlyPokerDog pretty much has the only other feasible option thinking NW district. Ain't gonna happen next to the Moda center unless huge changes are made.

I think it would be awesome, and I'm not even a baseball fan really. I'd go to some games though. I was really disappointed we didn't get the Expos.

My primary concern re location is transportation. If they can't put it someplace that is transportation friendly, they shouldn't site it. Period. Second is, it really is important to have a nice view. It's called a ball park for a reason ;)

Those are all nice mock up pictures but not one of them have a covered type stadium. Baseball in Portland would need a roof.

I agree that the stadium probably wouldn't work that great around the Rose Quarter, but I don't agree that the stadium must be over 40k capacity.

Only 3 teams in MLB averaged over 40K and more than half of the teams average under 30K per night and 21 of the teams are under 35K.

They could build one with 35K capacity with room for expansion.
