Didn't see this posted anywhere

I was listening to ripcity drive or whatever the radio show is called this morning on 620. They were reporting "breaking news" that an international group is trying to bring both baseball and football to Portland. Jay Allen (tired of this guy lol) was saying that he has heard they already have a couple of sites in mind of where they want to build TWO separate stadiums.

This would be awesome. I mean we have talked about it on this forum for years, and irl decades so theres no reason to get any hopes up.

Portland would be an awesome NFL city. Would you guys abandon your favorite team to root for the local one?
No I wouldn't!

I always liked the Meadowlarks or Larks for short before that ceased to be our state bird.
I agree. And not to be contrarian, but the Western Meadowlark is still the state bird. I peeped a couple through my binoculars just earlier today.

I peeped a couple of birds through my binoculars today in the park, until one of them called the cops on me.

I'd suggest wearing this next time you're out "peeping birds". They definitely won't be able to spot you.

Just can't see it happen yet. It was mentioned in a couple other posts. The city needs to widen the freeways and get some stadiums built to accommodate it. Now think about that for a minute. Passing the infrastructure bill and building the CRC which is exactly what it would take if not another bridge altogether around Troutdale or Fairview would next to impossible in the next 3-4 years. Then you have to build them. Now where ya gonna build the stadiums? Best place available right now seems to be PIR and the Portland Meadows site. That or the old Reynolds Aluminum site? Either would work but again you have to get approval from the areas. Maybe you are thinking west side like out in Hillsboro? Simply put that would be a nightmare also.

This whole idea is nothing less than 10 years away at the very best but yeah it's nice to talk about.

Yeah. Given our current traffic situation building a football stadium in the local area would probably turn locals to vehical behavior comperable to The Road Warrior movie.

We are just now building a 600 room hotel so we can have the NBA All-Star game in town. Can you imagine having a Baseball, Football and a Basketball game all on the same day in October?

I-5 is pretty much Fury Road already.

Portland Pioneers? That's got some history involved, both with baseball and....history.

If we are going for LumberJacks to go with the Timbers, might I suggest another logging related name:

The Portland Chokers

I've heard that Portland pro-sports teams have traditionally eschewed using Pioneers because of Lewis and Clark College.

That said, a third-tier college seems like a pretty crappy reason not to use the best possible option for a pro team name.

Go watch The Battered Bastards of Baseball on Netflix. You should be proud of that shit. It's part of our history and it was awesome.

I have no clue of what that's about. It might be. I'll watch it and may change my mind. But people act like just because something is a part of history you need to be proud of it. But it's not my history so... :dunno:

You're from Portland, right?

The NFL will never come to Portland. The Seahawks will block it as the NFL considers Portland their home territory.

A baseball team in Portland is an iffy situation at best because of how the last AAA team did attendance-wise. It was dismal. Plus I doubt there are 30-40k people that would show up to 80+ home dates a year.

An NHL team, however, would kill in Portland.

This is all accurate.

Would I drop the Seahawks if we got an NFL team? Absolutely not. I'd just hope like hell that the Portland team was in the AFC so I could adopt them as a 2nd favorite.
