Basketball at the Olympics

Just because the US doesn't win at it doesn't make it invalid...

That is not at all why I think 3x3 is a dumb Olympic sport. 5x5, a regular basketball game, is already an Olympic sport. I don't think the 3x3 version is necessary, it isn't worthy of being it's own event IMO.
Flag football will be in the next Olympics. Which I understand because there isn't regular football. But if there ever is regular football, then I think they should then get rid of flag football.

They play rugby 7s?
Rugby is 15 a side in most situations.

Yeah, that's true. But rugby 7's is played regularly at high levels in the rugby world. Basketball 3x3 is not. It's typically played with your friends or at local 3x3 tournaments.

The problem with that is that in order to qualify for the Olympics, the players have to play in qualifying tournaments, and NBA players probably aren't available at those times. It's different for the WNBA because their season is so condensed.

No, the fact that they allowed professional athletes to compete in any event in the Olympics makes it invalid.

Oregon Ducks connection Sabrina Ionescu with a deep 3 at the end of the game to increase the USA lead.

Do they also play regular rugby?
When I played we had tournaments designated for 7's. Missoula Montana holds a big tournament. as well as San Francisco.
Most of my days were 15 a side though my position (Inside Center) did translate well so I played 7's quite q bit.

Yep. Much more common than Basketball 3x3.

Sorry, I meant in the Olympics. I think their point was, why have 3on3 when there is already 5on5. Much like it'd be weird if there was 7s as well as 15s for rugby in the olympic games.

Yeah I got that. Was just making conversation.

Because 1/2 court basketball is arguably a vastly different game than full court.

We have sprinting; why do we have distance running?
We have high dive; why do we have springboard?
We have singles tennis; why do we have doubles?
We have indoor volleyball; why do we have beach volleyball?

Disagree. You can't hide in three on three. You have to play both offense and defense constantly.

Players can hide in 5 on 5. So they don't necessarily have to be as fundamentally sound. You'd better work on fundamentals if you're playing three on three competitively.

It's closer to volleyball than regular basketball, basically a haven for tweener wing types.

Lot of talk about LeBron playing at his age

Less frequently mentioned is Diana Taurasi starting for the USA W at age 42
Don’t let your blind hatred of the Lakers take away the fact that one is still one of the most dominating players on the court and the other one not so much.

Greece were one Nick Calathes 3 away from advancing. Go Boomers.

Can someone explain to me why Spain is eliminated but Greece isn't, even though their point differential is identical, and Spain beat Greece head to head?
Found an answer, stupid though it may be.

Shaedon should be playing with Canada
