According to Twitter and B-Edge.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Nicolas Batum signed with SLUC Nancy. The winger Portland Trail Blazers and the team will begin the season in France Pro A and the Euroleague with Nancy in the case quite likely that the lockout blocks the start of the NBA season.

We knew very advanced contacts between the two parties, but nothing was sure yet.

And some of you said it was LMA that was the Nancy.

WHat the fuck! Hope he doesn't injured. There has to be an out in his contract when the lockout is over right?

Concerning NBA players who play in Europe with "out" clauses--

They don't HAVE to return to the NBA.

If the lockout ends late in the season, the player will have built up some loyalty to his European team, especially if it's in the hunt for the playoffs and his NBA team isn't a playoff team.

He may just finish the season with his European team. Especially if the Euro owner sweetens his contract with a little extra for the remaining games and playoffs.

I think this is great! More playing time, more time being "the man".

Actually according to FIBA they do have to return to the NBA. The contracts in the NBA were before the contracts in Europe, even though the contracts are suspended for a time being, once the lockout is over all contracts are reinstated. If a player refuses to come back and honor his contract I can see huge legal battles unless of course its Rashard Lewis or Gilbert Arena's.

I'm not sure, but I think the most the player would risk would be a short suspension for skipping games. For an owner to outright cancel an NBA contract requires moral turpitude, not just a player skipping games. But, maybe I'm wrong. Anyone know?

If the player's any good, the team won't want to lose his trade value, even if they're mad and don't want him on the team. So I doubt they would just cancel his contract, even if merely skipping games were a reason stated in the contract for voiding a contract, which I don't think is the case, anyway.

Yesterday's articles said that FIBA is requiring an out provision in the contracts, but didn't say that it will be mandatory for players to leave their European teams when the NBA season resumes. They just said that a clause to give them that option is required.

Basketball's governing body says it will clear NBA players under contract to play in its leagues during the lockout, as long as they return once it's over.

That sounds like they have to leave once the lockout is over to me.

i am in favor of him playing and staying sharp, and hopefully getting more confident in his offense
