Let the complaining begin........
Nicolas Batum tweaked his back during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and scored just 7 points on 2-for-6 shooting against Team USA on Sunday.

"It was tough because I had a bad back. I tried to play with it, I tried everything," said Batum. "I hurt it during the Opening Ceremony, standing four or five hours in a row. I'm not used to that."

France trailed by just one at the end of the first quarter, 22-21. Team USA went on an 11-0 run in the second quarter to give themselves a cushion and were never seriously challenged the rest of the game.

Batum recently inked a four-year, $46 million contract with the Blazers.

He hurt his back standing during the Opening Ceremony? Are you fucking kidding me? That's one of the more ridiculous things I've heard explaining an injury.

Batum standing for 4 hours v. Oden getting up off a couch

It's close

Have YOU ever had to stand for 5 hours for an Olympic Opening Ceremonies? I thought not!

Being in one position for hours no matter what it is is horrible for the body. Standing/Sitting/Laying down. Anything were you can't actively move positions and stretch out will cause strains in the body. Especially if you have never done it before and are not used to it.

Yeah, that's the reason why Team USA didn't have Phelps or Lochte during the opening ceremonies. Standing for a few hours isn't going to give an Olympic athlete a serious injury, but can definitely take a toll on your body and throw you out of whack in the short term.

With that said, it does just sound like an excuse for an off game on Batum's end. He didn't play well, and he could have just used the opening ceremonies as a scapegoat.

I guess we'll find out in France's next few games.

Even the Queen looked pissed, and she was sitting through the entire thing!

Portland should complain that Khan had them sign a guy with a bad back.

He must have hurt his back carrying around all those sacks of money that David Kahn got for him.

Are we sure it's not an infected mosquito bite or complications due to frostbite?

appropos of nothing, I wonder if he got paid in 1 dollar bills, put all of it in a swimming pool and then swam around in his pile of cash like Scrooge McDuck?

You'd be pissed, too.

You went too far there. Sleeping is quite good for the body, even hours on end.

I've never understood why they don't improve the Parade of Nations for the athletes. Put them on a conveyor belt in the staging area so they have seating options while waiting to come into the stadium. Hell, put them all on nationally themed parade floats.

No doubt. I couldn't believe this was real so I had to come over and say something. He certainly didn't look like he was straining to play. It's the Portland curse!

He looked good. It will be interesting to see his numbers vs USA as opposed to GB.

Kirilenko has always been better than Batum, so it's no surprise. Of course, he's not really a SF any more, which is the major position of need for the Wolves, but he'll be there to guard whoever it is that Kevin Love should be guarding but can't. The Wolves will be better than the Blazers this year, and we should just accept that.

(Unless Rubio can't recover, that is, because he's their most important player by a mile.)

It is, but everyone moves around in their sleep. If you had to sleep in something, like say a coffin, that does not allow for any real movement then you would wake up cramped and not feeling rested.

Getting off topic a bit, but I disagree. Sleeping on your back is the best for your body, assuming you're on a decent surface. Being confined might affect your mind and ability to get to sleep, but that's it.

I don't move when asleep. I wake up in the exact same position most nights, and have had girlfriends comment about it, so it's not just my perception. If I sleep over 7 hours I start moving, but under that usually still as a painting unless its allergy season.

God sleeps? And he has girlfriends? And he has allegeries? Scandalous.

I can't believe you wasted our time with this post son. The fact that I have to point out how bad it is must be quite embarrassing. You think that Russian would put those numbers up on us? Shit, I could put up 22 and 12 against fucking Great Britain!

Ya, it's like comparing MG's to Bentley's

Why are you posting this, Sly

Thought it was a little interesting. The majority of T-wolf fans would still want Batum over AK47. If you go read Oregonlive's Blazer forum the majority of them now want AK47 over Batum, lol.

I think for age alone you take Batum over AK47. Not to mention that both the Wolves and Blazers have an All Star at their 4. Batum is more of a 3 than AK. Batum did look passive against the US, but like I said in an earlier thread nobody ever looks good on the Washington Generals.
