I did a quick look up on defensive stats on HoopData for defensive plays (steals + blocks + charges). Defense is a team effort but this is a good rough gauge of effort on defense.

I sorted it per 40 minutes and players that played 30+ minutes.

League average is 2.14

Bogut is #1 with 4.09

Batum is #46 with 2.23 defensive plays per 40 min:

I didn't watch many games lately and I actualy remember a very dismal defensive-effort against Luol Deng earlier this year but there's no doubt in my mind that Batum is MUCH, MUCH closer to top-5 defender in the league than Bottom 5. I agree with HCP, this is a joke.

Synergy Sports is legit, but... without more info, it's tough to take that tweet seriously.

I don't think that anyone really thinks that Batum is one of the worst defenders in the NBA.
