Five Erie BayHawks players scored in double figures to help defeat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants Friday at the Tullio Arena, 109-97. Player of the game, Blake Ahearn, recorded a double-double with 26 points and 12 assists.
Ahearn dropped in ten in the first quarter as the BayHawks outscored the Mad Ants 29-21. The Mad Ants dug in to cut the lead to two by halftime led by Walker Russell's ten first half points.
Ahearn and teammate Ivan Johnson lead Erie's charge after halftime combining for 36 second half points (Johnson- 20, Ahearn-16). The Mad Ants answered most of the BayHawks points in the third, however the BayHawks' 40 points in the fourth quarter proved to be too much for Fort Wayne to handle.
Johnson led Erie with 29 points, Kyle Spain added 18, Nate Linhart notched 14, and Garrett Temple dropped in 12 as Erie improved to 16-9.
The Mad Ants were led by Russell's 29 points, Darnell Lazare added 14 and Roderick Wilmont contributed 11.
The same two teams go at it for the back end of the two-game set on Saturday night at 7pm ET. It's also Toronto Raptors Affiliate night featuring performances by the Raptors dance team and "Raptor" the mascot.
