The BayHawks defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Wednesday afternoon in front of a crowd of 4,925. In a game of multiple runs, it was Erie that took the final lead in overtime and finished off the Vipers by a final score of 102-99.

Rio Grande Valley's (17-10) Andrew Goudelock got off to a hot start, scoring 16 first quarter points and leading his team to a 32-25 first quarter advantage. The BayHawks (16-12) battled back and cut the deficit to two points as the teams broke for intermission. Erie's two All-Stars led the way for the BayHawks in the first half as D.J. Kennedy tallied 11 points, five rebounds and five assists while Henry Sims chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Erie took it's first lead of the game two minutes into the second half on a Cory Higgins jumper. The BayHawks closed the quarter with a Tirrell Baines slam dunk and led 79-63 heading into the fourth. The Vipers were able to erase Erie's advantage and took the lead on two Goudelock free throws with two minutes remaining. Kyle Goldcamp converted a lay-up with 47 second left to knot the game at 94. Erie attempted three shots in the final 20 seconds but could not convert and the game went to overtime. The BayHawks only missed one shot in overtime and eventually defeated the Vipers by a final score of 102-99.

Sims scored a game-high 24 points for the BayHawks. Kennedy added 22 point and a season-high 12 assists while Higgins and Baines also pitched in with double-figure outputs. Goudelock finished with a team-high 22 points for Rio Grande Valley. Vernon Macklin scored 19 and Tim Ohlbrecht had a solid day with 17 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Erie returns to action Friday night against the Sioux Falls Skyforce at the Erie Insurance Arena. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free hand clapper, courtesy of Stanley Steemer. The Vipers continue their six-game road trip in Fort Wayne on Friday.
