It boiled down to him saying he has an incredible amount of drive and that there is NO doubt in his mind that he's gonna be a major contributor in the NBA over his career. He also gave Steve Blake high praise and said that he was very comfortable being the #2 PG on this team.

I dunno, you just had to hear him. I had a very, very good feeling about this kid while he was confidently answering Canzano's questions.

Sounds good. I love Bayless's game, but his attitude is even better.

No.

Unless Bayless is simply outplaying Blake during his backup minutes. If he can get his shooting percentages up and continue to play tough perimeter defense I'd say there is a definite shot of him starting over Blake. I don't think Bayless will progress that fast though.

Dave at Blazersedge wrote the following, which I've really noticed since he came into the league and wanted to point out here:

Rex was whistled for three quick fouls, primarily because he seems to enjoy getting up in his man's jersey and playing chest to chest defense in a way that shows off his lateral quickness. Unfortunately this is not legal in the NBA. At some point, one hopes his looks of disbelief towards the officials when he's whistled for a touch foul 30 feet from the hoop will be replaced by a savvier approach that doesn't draw the whistles. Still waiting on that.

"Do you think you can be a starter on this team?"

"Oh, there's no doubt in my mind I can"

I also liked how he said something to the affect of bring on the comments about how I cant do it. It just adds fuel to the fire so keep the comments coming.

I don't know if Blake will be the starter the whole year, but I don't think Bayless will start unless Blake is injured. Blake though might not be the starter the this year so I can't pick A. I think Bayless will backup the starter unless there is a injury.

Not to be disagreeable but did he really play "tough perimeter D" last year? Seems to me his D was not that great, now I think he may be capable of playing good D, but I really have not seen it yet.

I really wish there was a defensive composition stat or something like that, 82games.com did one a few years ago, but stopped. It was sort of a defensive PER stat if you will.

The one thing I always noticed about Bayless last year as opposed to Blake and Sergio was his ability to get through screens on the pick and roll. The team didn't have to switch as much when he was on the floor, and seemed to be able to "stay at home" much better, rather than scrambling.

He certainly wasn't anything close to a lock down defender, but he seemed to have the ability to stay somewhat in front of his man.
