From Blazersedge:

Bayless registered a DNP - Coach's Decision and bolted from the locker room pretty quickly after the game. The highlight of his night appeared to be a halftime conversation with fellow Arizonan Channing Frye. Also, these capri pants. It's going to be an incredibly long season for Rex.

Will he even match his 12 MPG he registered last season?

I doubt it. He might get 82 DNP's with the roster. He will probably get some time in the D-League!

It's really too bad. I think Bayless is going to be a very good scorer in this league. Just probably not on this team.

I predict that at some time this season, Bayless will show strong signs of mental insanity. Bookmark this, because it will happen. He will have to relieve the inner pressure somehow. If he doesn't go bonkers, his intestines will implode. Watch his face for pained mannerisms and you can see the volcano shaking. This is a really, really bad guy deep inside. He expects power wherever he goes and he hates losing command. Nate should stand a big man between himself and Bayless when he talks to him.

When he becomes good enough to log NBA minutes, he'll do so. Until then, he can continue to look GQ on the bench.

Since Blake is only under contract through this season and Miller though next (with team option for another)... I hope he is patient. It would be rather dumb to force a trade right before the logjam frees.

Well it's not like Blake has been a beacon of shining goodness on the basketball court. Right now the second unit is lacking scoring and intensity on D. He might just fit that bill.

Best players play. When Jerryd does what Nate wants, he'll get minutes.

Like most here I kind of expect him to have another lost season, but I suppose if Blake continues to stink it up in his new reserve role and can't bring it in limited minutes I think there's a chance you could see him on the court alongside Rudy, Roy or Miller -- 3 players who can create with the ball -- in this role I'd expect him to be a limited minutes spark-plug type of player, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to capitalize in such situations; he always looks like he's pressing when he's out on the court and trying to do too much. Jerryd's greatest obstacle may be learning to curb some of his intensity in an odd twist.

The real issue of course is that if he logs 30 DNPs by the time of the all-star break, I'm guessing he's going to ask KP for a trade (maybe puclicly, hopefully privately) and at that point I hope KP has the balls to finally part with some players to bring back some real value instead of holding on too long and losing all value.

dude shot 36% from the field last year & 26% from 3's. Improve both of those #'s to 46% and 36% (or so) and I bet he'll find himself getting plenty of minutes.

I'm reminded of a really smart friend of mine who works for Deloitte & Touche in their consulting division. When you're sitting around the office waiting for an assignment, it's called being "on the beach". He joined them in the summer. By the Labor Day, he still hadn't been picked to join an engagement. Everyone else in his class had been by that time.

He went to his mentor (every consultant is assigned one) and asked why he was still on the beach. His mentor asked him, "What have those people done to make themselves wanted that you haven't? What have you done to improve yourself since you've been here?" My buddy did his own consulting study of what people who were always getting picked for engagements were doing. By early November he received his first engagement, and a decade later he's a partner.

The lesson for my friend was that no matter how individually talented he was, it was more important to fit into a team.

I could see that, and Blake's body language when he walked off the court last night wasn't very good IMO. He seems a little frustrated that he's probably lost his starting role even though he's said all the right things.

And without Brandon on the floor, he's trying to do a little too much and he's turning it over or making bad decisions. It's a big adjustment to him, but if he continues to struggle, Jerryd might get a shot here or there.
Bayless will get some time eventually this season. There's always a circumstance where he'll be needed due to injury or whatever.

IF Rudy is used in a trade (because he can't get enough minutes behind Roy) . . . I think Bayless would make a good back up SG.

How come no one likes your friends? Did you eat lunch alone in high school?

So Bayless should hire your friend to do a consulting study on why he can't get picked to go into games.

I think we should all take up a collection to donate alms to poor Bayless. At least give him a fanny cushion for all those lonely nights on the bench. Then he goes home to his mother, who probably yells at him. We should find him a girlfriend, too. That'd be two women yelling at him to get a real job.

As if sitting on the bench will help him improve. The Blazers are hindering his growth.

I think its a mixture of both. He isnt ready yet for steady minutes on a winning team. And The Blazers arent in a position to let someone learn on the fly and probably lose a few more games because of it.

They should play their inexperienced players with less talent instead of trying to win with the more skilled players.

How many minutes has he played in the preseason? Last time I checked, those wins don't count for anything.

I would agree with that.. IF they werent trying to acclamate a brand new PG into the system in Miller. If it was just Blake and Sergio still, I think that Bayless would take precedence (sp?) over those two who already know the system, and have experience playing with the rest of the team.

Why not give more Blake's minutes to Bayless? During the preseason, I mean.

I guess cause he'll be playing with those guys some too.. while Bayless wont be in the regular season. While the games dont matter in the W/L column, they are tune ups for getting people on the same page. That would be my best guess then.

Upon Further review.. Bayless is averaging 15 MPG almost and has played in 3 of the 4

Epic thread.

I don't care who said what, I don't look at the poster, but just reading the threads it is really amazing how fast our perception of someone can change on here.

Oh well...

Go Blazers! Ducks! Jerryd!
