Bayless traded to NO

Ok, I get that people don't mind because they think this opens up playing time for Armon, Rudy, etc, but I'm pissed because I think we should have been able to get more for Bayless, OR we could have used him as sweetener with an expiring.
The pick is also a potential sweetener. We don't really need the pick anyway -- I think we have quite a few young players as it is.

An interesting trade. Bayless never reached the potential expected of him, and we have a pretty deep roster this year. I think we don't lose anything by this move, and perhaps get a VERY good rookie next year to go along with our own.

I can see your point of view, but really, how many teams would want Bayless? He has limited appeal. Even crappy teams like Philly have players like Lou Williams who is VERY similar. I say take the money and run! I honestly think that, in terms of trade chips, the NO pick is a lot more valuable than Bayless.

I think you undervalue Jerryd. I think be could average 18 to 20 ppg in the league in an offense that allows him to play freely. McMillan isn't known for letting his point guards play off the leash. If Monty lets Bayless do his thing, his way, we could see an offensive monster emerge, and then what will you say?

Today, 2:27 PM (PST):

considering how bad bayless looks, how could the blazers trade rudy? there is no offense anywhere on that bench besides matthews.

I now have confirmation....

The blazers have no clue or path. Who plays pg if miller goes down? This is a move a team not expecting playoffs makes. Bayless was decent depth.

I applaud MIXUM for being willing to change his stance as new information comes in. In this case, the new information is that Bayless is no longer a Blazer. That clearly changes the caliber of player Bayless. :)

Wait a minute! I just saw that this deal is lottery-protected. If that's a fact, this deal sucks.

I can't say this is the trade I was hoping the Blazers would make with Bayless, but I can see the rationale.

hmmmm

lottery protected? Is there a link to this? If its true, you gotta be kidding me, it has to be the precursor to a bigger deal.

@FletcherMackel Hornets trade future first round pick (lottery protected) to Portland for Jared Bayless. this move means Thornton could dealt soon.

Yes, exactly. After two seasons, at the rather advanced age of 22, Bayless never fulfilled expectations. Why, some of this year's draftees are the same age as him! That's how old he is. Thank goodness the plug was pulled on this long Bayless experiment.

Count on Sean Meagher to get the little blurb in over at O-Live.

My favorite Bayless clip!

This is not a move made by a team trying to win now. You would think the hornets were the playoff team

He wasn't very good at it. His only reliable skill is getting to the free throw line.

So who do you think is going to do a better job at backing up Dre and possibly Brandon? They must really be high on Wes and Rudy's preseason play made them do this deal.

I don't like it. A young player with an incredible work ethic who has a very valuable, NBA-proven skill (ability to get to the free throw line)... and we get a protected first?

Ick.

If we end up keeping Mills with the roster spot, then it's basically a first and Mills for Bayless, but... I still think Bayless is a pretty good prospect and I'm disappointed to think he's going to excel with another team.

That was never the issue. I've said it multiple times (I'm sure people love that) but his circumstances here were never going to be optimal for him ... or the team. Best of luck to him, I hope it works out for him and he'll certainly have a great mentor, if he's willing to take the tutelage.

Matthews is better than Bayless and Rudy's skill is more needed than Bayless' in my opinion.

:lol::lol::lol:

I had sworn I wasn't coming back here (the Blazer forum, not S2), but this is just too good.

No wonder they fired KP....he was the only person associated with the team who isn't a total fucktard. Everybody is hurt - again, Roy is turning into Roybe more every day, they overpay for Matthews, they are actually going to rely on Rudy to contribute, and now this. The hits just keep on coming!

This is how I feel, and I guess I expected a move because they moved Johnson ahead of Bayless in the rotation.

Y'know, some people in the organization were ready to pull the plug on the Telfair experiment and draft Chris Paul. But John Nash overruled them - after all, Telfair wasn't even 20, was he?

I appreciated Bayless' hard work, attitude (& lack of attitude about not getting as many minutes as he wanted) but he's always been a disappointment. He was never a good fit here and I never considered him to be a necessary piece to the long term success of this team.

That said I wish him all the best in NO.
