Bad Trade, but i dont blame Neil. Jody probably has told him to reduce the Tax

So sad our season is over before the All-Star. Oh well, just rest Dame for next season

What’s funny is Ariza actually isn’t that much worse than Covington. His rebound percentage is identical, his assist percentage is superior, his steal percentage is in the same ballpark (2.2 vs 2.8) as is his dbpm (1.1 vs 1.7.) And those are his numbers this season, because if you look at their cumulative numbers, Ariza is actually superior. Put him with Dame and CJ and I’d bet his shooting percentages go up. For the price, I don’t understand the anger.

Why are people angry?

How many extra wins does the trade generate this season - and why is that even a concern?
How many extra wins does it generate next season?
We couldn't wait for the end of the season for Baze to leave - we had to PAY someone to take him off our hands? Expiring contracts now have a negative value?

But hey - the team saved some $$$, so it's all good! :smiley-jumping::djspin:

OMG... this is like worst case scenario... an f’ing salary dump of one of the few assets we have... yuck!

Neil is a failure.

Worst part of deal no one is talking about is that it kills any chance to sign a decent player in free agency... the cap room we would have had letting Bazemore and Whiteside walk has been greatly diminished... this was worse then losing both players for nothing IMO

What are you talking about... $21 mil in expiring contracts of Bazemore and Tolliver was traded for $14 mil of an extra year from Ariza and Gabrial

His shooting goes up next to guys that don’t pass the ball?! Also, he is turning 35 this year!

We got worse... season over. Saved Jody Allen $12 mil

Seriously, I didn’t think there was a worse scenario than letting Whiteside and Bazemore walk... Neil proved me wrong... we will lose both players now AND have no cap space.

Is anyone still defending Neil?! He got us into this mess with a league high $148 mil payroll and now the fans will pay for it with his salary dumps

How does $14 mil less in expirings only reduce cap room by $2 mil?

My bad... didn’t realize 2nd year was not guaranteed... no need to insult me tho

How do you not blame Neil... he is cleaning up his own mess

Dude's got a nasty case of O(O)CD: Obsessive (Olshey) Compulsive Disorder. Poor fella.

I'm really not sure. If I had to guess this trade combined with the fact that we haven't signed anyone with the open roster spot(s), not even to a 10-day contract, probably means that they're more concerned with the tax payments than it being a part of something bigger.

I'm wondering about something CBA related:

Ariza's guarantee deadline is June 30. It used to be a player with a contract like that could be traded around the draft and the team receiving the contract could then cut the player, saving money the following season. But I seem to remember that option was closed in the latest CBA....am I recalling things wrong about the CBA?

Just saw the trade can't be completed until the 21st because of some sort of restrictions on Wenyen's contract. So do Baze and AT play in the two games between now and then?

Damn we became that one franchise who just trying to save money nowadays. Miss paul allen

Ok so:

saving money: always good, all things being equal.

bazemore: garbage
Tolliver: garbage
2nds in 2025: near worthless

for

ariza: garbage
Caleb: garbage
Wenyon Gabriel: an intriguing prospect? Seems like he has some potential. Gonna have to check him out.

So we save money, don’t really get worse this year (if it even matters), and pick up a prospect.

Id say it’s a win. A small win, but a win.

Except that 2nd round picks will be valuable when high school players are allowed in draft again
