Trade Bazemore being traded to SAC

Could we have Melo and Trevor coming off the bench next season?

I want to believe that Jodie did not tell Neil to save money. I want to believe that Neil wants to trade for a really good player with a fairly big contract. I want to believe it won't be Kevin Love.
Well if he is going to trade for a really good player with a fairly big contract it won't be Love. He once was a really good player now he is just paid like one.

Consider the young kid your 2nd round pick. But early.
Alllllllllll season people bitching about Bazemore and Tolliver. They are now gone. Maybe the market for fucking Bazemore and Tolliver isn’t great? Maybe? They can find a way to get more second round picks if they want in 2024, my god.

It doesn’t prohibit any trades people have been fantasizing about, so I don’t get it either. They still have picks to trade. They still have expirings. Shit they may even flip Ariza if they find someone better. And saving on the tax isn’t a bad thing, because adding money becomes more realistic.

Arizas guarantee date is June 30th. That’s after the draft. Could be something to keep in mind.

2nd round picks are always valuable to teams like Toronto and GS who know how to draft.

They are worth more maybe, but...It’s a crap shoot.

Remember when Jordan Bell was the steal of the century and everyone was all but hurt that GS outmaneuvered us to get him? Fuck I think people were calling him some sort of defensive mastermind, the next draymond. A game changer. He’s garbage.

it’s less about the draft, and more about development and opportunity. Blazers are meh at that too unfortunately.

relatively speaking, Portland is actually one of the better teams when it comes to opportunity/development.

I'm wondering about something CBA related:

Ariza's guarantee deadline is June 30. It used to be a player with a contract like that could be traded around the draft and the team receiving the contract could then cut the player, saving money the following season. But I seem to remember that option was closed in the latest CBA....am I recalling things wrong about the CBA?

The loophole was indeed closed in the last CBA. If we traded Ariza in the off season his contract for the 2020-21 season would have to be guaranteed (with a few exceptions like if the team was under the salary cap or we traded him for a player making around $1.8 million).

Damn we became that one franchise who just trying to save money nowadays. Miss paul allen
Ummm, the years leading up to Paul's death he made trades to get out of the tax including trading Crabbe for Nicholson and then stretching his contract and trading Vonleh away for nothing. So what are you talking about?

I don't think arizas was the main player that Olshey wanted I think it's Gabriel that Olshey and swanigan was throw in to complete the trade. Gabriel is for the future and Arizas was for remainder of the season at SF. But the 2 month Gabriel will get his chance to play until some of our guys get back from injuries.

thanks for the clarification

Hood insurance? First of all, Hood may never be the same again... and for sure not next season. So if Neil thinks 36 year old Ariza is a good replacement at starting SF then he is about to waste another year of Dames prime... terrible use of an expiring contact.

Gee, color me surprised that you’re not thrilled. Ariza is 34, not 36. Hood may or may not be able to return by the start of next season, but he’ll likely play at some point. Wesley Matthews and Rudy Gay were able to return from the same injury, and Durant is expected to be back next season. Hood is only 27, so it’s likely he can return as an effective player. Ariza buys a year for him to transition back. Little may develop into the long term answer at that position.

I think Ariza is going to be an upgrade from Baze at the 3. He's a longer rangier defender on the perimeter, he's shooting the three better and doesn't have a propensity for going 1 on 5 on offense at weird times.

Ariza will be 35 in June.

that's DRPM, not RPM

what you want is a two-way player. Ariza's RPM is 25th among SF's at 0.59. Bazemore isn't far behind at 0.44. But, Bazemore has 0.81 RPM wins vs Ariza at 0.68.

I should learn how to tweet...I could tweet as much inanity as a lot of these guys

Or learn how to read.

Huh. Wenyen is a tasty little prospect. Love what I'm seeing from him. Athletic and has range. 5 star prospect played at Kentucky. We can work with that!

WE can work with that, Stotts' history is that he won't unless absolutely forced to when we are so depleted it won't make a difference.

Ok so:

saving money: always good, all things being equal.

bazemore: garbage
Tolliver: garbage
2nds in 2025: near worthless

for

ariza: garbage
Caleb: garbage
Wenyon Gabriel: an intriguing prospect? Seems like he has some potential. Gonna have to check him out.

So we save money, don’t really get worse this year (if it even matters), and pick up a prospect.

Id say it’s a win. A small win, but a win.
Plus we get a player with championship experience.

his history actually says the opposite. It’ll just take a year or two.

My gut says he is gonna be dealt for Aldridge.

I’d do that. LMA would be a great vet fit for a team like us next year when Nurk and Collins are back healthy. He can be the first big off the bench to rotate for Nurk and Collins while Skal is your other insurance.

I’d just hope LMA is up for that role
