I've been following the election projections at realclearpolitics.com and the senate has been seriously trending toward republicans.

They have it 48 dems, 46 gop as of today, with 6 seats up for grabs.

While RCP uses their average of the polls, I think the trends are more interesting. Like what the most recent polls say vs. an average that includes some polls from 3 weeks ago.

Anyhow, here's the 6 states considered tossup:

W VA Raese (R) +2.5 over Manchin (D)
CO Buck (R) + 2.0 over Bennett (D) - but +4 and +5 in polls this month.
IL Kirk (R) +1.6 over Giannoulias (D) - but +3 and +2 in polls this month.
NV Reid (D) +1 over Angle (R) - but last 4 polls are angle/angle/tie/reid
WA Murray (D) +5.3 over Rossi (R) - 2 week old poll Murray +9, two the last week both Murray +1
CT Blumenthal (D) +4.0 over McMahon (R) - last two polls Blumenthal +3 and +5.

It sure looks like the House will be republican in any case. RCP has 207 Republicans, 191 Democrats with 37 tossups. Republicans need 9 of those 37 tossup races to control the House.

Meanwhile James Clyburn, an honorable member of the house leadership (Majority Whip) and black caucus is trying to spread around the fear.

If the last 10 years have taught us anything, it's that it doesn't really matter which party has the majority since 99% of them are on the take, care nothing about their country or it's inhabitants, and will accomplish nothing of value to any of us in the bigger picture.

Our best hope is to have divided govt. and then the only things they pass are at least acceptable to both parties. That is, until we elect Libertarians.

Republicans are now leading in 54 Democratic House districts. In 19 more, the incumbent congressman is under 50 percent and his GOP challenger is within five points. That makes 73 seats where victory is within easy grasp for the Republican Party. The only reason the list is not longer is that there are 160 Democratic House districts that were considered so strongly blue that there is no recent polling available.

In the Senate, Republicans lead in eight Democratic seats: North Dakota, Indiana, Arkansas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Illinois. In Nevada, the ninth, Harry Reid has been stuck at 44 percent of the vote since Aug. 1, when his Social Security/Medicare attack was rebutted. He is dead in the water. For the 10th seat, the GOP has five options: New York, where Joe DioGuardi is only one point behind Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the latest published poll; California, where Sen. Patty Murray; Connecticut, where Linda McMahon has closed to 50-45; and Delaware, where Christine O’Donnell may yet come back and has closed the gap to nine points.

Boehner surprise: Dems barely get votes to adjourn after floor speech

House Democrats on Wednesday barely won a 210-209 vote to adjourn the House without extending the Bush tax cuts.

Thirty-nine House Democrats voted against adjournment after Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) urged opposition to the motion in a floor speech that said it would be irresponsible for Congress to leave without providing certainty on the tax issue. Dozens of Democrats in tough races voted against adjourning.

Health reform to worsen doctor shortage: group

(Reuters) - The U.S. healthcare reform law will worsen a shortage of physicians as millions of newly insured patients seek care, the Association of American Medical Colleges said on Thursday.

The group's Center for Workforce Studies released new estimates that showed shortages would be 50 percent worse in 2015 than forecast.

"While previous projections showed a baseline shortage of 39,600 doctors in 2015, current estimates bring that number closer to 63,000, with a worsening of shortages through 2025," the group said in a statement.

"The United States already was struggling with a critical physician shortage and the problem will only be exacerbated as 32 million Americans acquire health care coverage, and an additional 36 million people enter Medicare."

Economy still needs reinforcement: Geithner

(Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Thursday that the economy still needs reinforcement from Washington.

"We think there's still a very strong case for more work by Washington ... It's important to find a way to put some additional incentives in place for business investment and to start a substantial, multi-year program of investment in infrastructure," he said at a conference. "We're still at a time where the economy needs some reinforcement."
