Im interested in becoming a high school cross country coach as a part time job for a high school. I used to run cross country in high school and think it would be fun.

I was thinking it would be best to volunteer as an assistant for awhile under someones wing first to get experience.

Anyone ever been a high school sports coach or know how to get in touch with coaches to offer being a non paid assistant first?

I have a full time job where im able to flex my schedule, so I can make the hours work.

find a school, email the secretary. Ask who you should get in contact with regarding what you want to find out. Email that person, and give your credentials and emphasize that you would be willing to volunteer at first, but that you have hopes to be a paid coach someday and that in NO WAY are you expecting that a volunteered coaching "job" would guarantee anything.

contact the head coach or athletic director, not the secretary.

I have coached basketball for many years at the high school level. Start calling schools telling them you want to volunteer. Especially financially troubled areas....As above, contact the coaches, not the secretary. Every school has a directory

Just tell them your name is Sandusky... I'm sure they'll call you back.

My dad is the head track coach at Grant. I can give you his info if you want.

If you can't find out who is the head coach or athletic director, who do you contact who would know?

Dude you don't want to work at Grant... they be shootin white folk over there!

Funny story about grant. When I ran cross country at reynolds, we had a meet at grant. Some of the grant kids saw we were from reynolds and had no idea where troutdale was. They proceeded to call us hicks and country boys......
