CHERRY HILL, N.J. - New Jersey Turnpike drivers have to deal with traffic jams, pollution and even the occasional deer.

But motorists driving north of Interchange 3 had a new obstacle on Saturday afternoon as thousands of honeybees swarmed around cars.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Joseph Orlando said the swarms were from a man-made beehive that apparently fell beside northbound lanes in Cherry Hill at about 2 p.m.

The Turnpike Authority was seeking out a beekeeper to deal with the problem.

When asked about the incedent, the Queen Bee had this to say, "We are just excited about the cap space the Nets will have in 2010. LeBron is a free agent you know and his ass is as sweet as the honey we Jersey Bees make daily"....

That is really odd. Roll up the windows! Why do they need a bee keeper? Just spray them with something and kill them.

This reminds me of a day I was driving over highway 17. It has 4 lanes, 2 on each side separated by a concrete barrier, through windy mountains. One morning, I slowed way down as I saw a deer just standing in the fast lane sniffing the concrete. I layed on the horn as I decelerated. It waited until I was within about 10 feet from it, then hopped over the center divide...into an oncoming car from the southbound side. I was rolling slow enough to see it explode on impact with the other car. I couldn't turn my car around and go ride up to the other car though because the center divide goes almost the whole way through the mountains.
 
I love how the first line of the article fails to mention the immature, speeding NJ teen drivers who disregard both their own safety and the safety of their fellow drivers . . . What? Why is everyone looking at me?


And occasional deer would be an understatement if you ask me. On any given night there are at least 4 or 5 deer sitting in my front lawn. I don't know how many deer you would find on the turnpike since I don't drive it all that often, but I'd imagine it's got to be more than occasional.
 
Well, every night when I would return from work, they would sometimes be standing on the shoulder of the highway staring at cars going by. You have no idea whether they would jump in front of your car at any given moment. Anytime I spot them, I slow down and make sure that if they do make a bad decision, they don't take me with them.
 
I saw my first live deer last week, I was driving to my internship up in Oakland (quite the scenery change from Jersey City/Bayonne) and a deer ran out across the road about 15 feet in front of me. I freaked out, it just ran so fast. Thankfully it made it to the other side of the road, and I saw it running gently into some yard.
Ironically enough, that same day on the way home, there's a statue of Jesus towards the end of Route 3, and i saw a baby deer standing buy it, and then laying down next to it. I'm not a religious person at all, but that was somewhat moving to see for some reason.
 
I used to live in Utah, where driving some of the highways was sometimes like an avoid-the-deer video game. I hit one once, it hit every panel on the side of my car and was alive afterwards, but dying. A guy in a passing car stopped and hopped out and was about to stab it or slit its throat or something when it gave up the ghost, and then we carried it over to the side of the road. I'd just adopted my dogs (<--- those guys) and was driving home from that. I don't think that meant there was some kind of cosmic balance- I think it meant I was driving more distractedly.
 
In Eagle Rock I saw about 20 to 30 deers in a open field on the way home from finding out Batman was sold out at
two theaters.
 
I just came from Old Forge in the Adirondacks, and I saw at least 2 to 4 deer every day up there for 5 days. There's deer comin out the ying yang up there
 
The bees were angry about Jefferson getting traded.

There has been a huge drop off in the bees population. Can't just kill more off.
