Ben Golliver ‏@blazersedge
Happy to announce I'll soon join SI .com's NBA team with @RobMahoney. I'll stay at Blazersedge too. http://sbn.to/R7amLh

Does this mean SI has no real sources now, or the SI doesn't know what it is talking about?

Maybe he can stop being as negative as can be on the Blazers now. Just because your a fan doesn't mean you always have to look at negative side to be considered a "real" reporter.

Actually that's exactly what it means. When I covered the team I had no credibility with the "real" media because I wasn't negative like Quick and Clownzano.

golliver is a hack, but most of their cnnsi.com writers are, i assume he is going to work online? if so, just another know nothing pretending to be worth reading

i read tom verducci and joe posnanski for baseball there, better than espn guys for baseball imo

I doubt it. I don't know Ben (only said Hi to him once at a M&G), but if he's anything like Abbott he'll go out of his way to play up the "I'm a Blazer fan, but (badbadbadbadbadbadbadbadbadmouthing), so if I'm saying it it must be true." Hollinger seems much more equal opportunity with his stats-based h8terade across the board. ;)

I think it's pretty damn cool. To go from writing for some little Blazer fan blog to SI is impressive. Props to finding a way to getting paid for doing something he loves.

honestly i never thought that his writing was especially good or memorable, did you? did anyone?

the sbn giants blog has a great writer

Yep. Congrats to Goliver, who has taken a gig at a free blog and made it into a paid job at a prestigious publication.

Very cool.

yeah, as much as I think he's nothing special as a writer, I'd totally love to be paid to write about the Blazers, go to Blazer games and be smug.

So far, I write about the Blazers and am smug for free.

This is a hobby for us. Dream job is being paid for your hobby, IMO.

well, whos the new writer at BE? someone go for it

i assumed they got paid at least a little, maybe $100 bucks a day or something

My dream job is to be a hack for BlazersEdge...... I'm applying!

It's a shame how many of us would be giddy at the prospect of being paid to write about the Blazers, isn't it?

Not that I'd be able to write on par with those guys, but I would stop sleeping with Mrs HCP, stop joking ABOUT sleeping with Mrs HCP, stop sparring with people on here, vote for Romney AND cheer for the L.A. Lakers if it meant I could get paid to film the Blazers for a year AND follow them for a whole season.

What do you do for a career? How little would you take to follow and write about the Blazers?

So, what do people consider to be good journalism and who do they actually like or respect? I always seem to read about how every journalist is either uninformed, an idiot, or both. Who do y'all like?

Local or national?

I work in social services, why, is there an opening for someone to film a year long documentary about the team?

Keep I mind, I have no talent

Just wondering how much less you'd take to be a fulltime writer on the team for a site like BlazersEdge? How do you think those guys get paid? By each piece they write?

sbnation guys get a salary i would guess, at least the full time guys, and have to post a certain amount of words a day or something like that

No clue, but I suspect they aren't paid very well. The guys who go on ESPN are probably better off than the ones write for ESPN.

If they got say, 150 bucks per article, and do 3 a week for 8 months, that's...um...14k?

That said, I bet it's more than that. But as supplemental income, that's not too bad.

I'd write 3 article a week for 8 months for an additional 14k a year....hint hint Denny...

We should get paid by the post from Denny on here!

I bet he won't make much more at SI. Like, he moves up from $30,000 to $40,000 per year.

I think Ben has done a fantastic job and I'm really impressed with his career trajectory. Well done.
