I'd like to interject and just say: an article on Steve Blake has just turned this whole thread into a Blake vs. Oden debate...

Yeah. Well the article did say he took away 164 attempts that Oden should have, so that's where it started.

Since Oden is the guy who is most likely to push us into that championship level, how every player impacts Oden is important.

Yes, but how did that spawn 2+ pages of Oden vs. Blake?? You know we can have both right??

Why would you think anything but I want us to keep both? I want Blake to continue to attempt and make 3pt shots at a 42% clip, and I don't think he should be criticized for doing so. Ben totally missed the mark there, I stated that, and clearly someone disagrees with me.

Well that comment wasn't directed specifically at you. Sorry if it came out that way.

I think Blake should be our backup, and we should search for a starter.............

No reason for this whole Blake vs. Oden debate though...

I probably got too passionate because I can't believe that Ben could be that far off to say some of the things he said. He had plenty of valid material to say that Blake isn't what we need as a starter (which we both agree), but to say he shouldn't have shot any of his 328 threes because that hurt the growth of our posts is crazy.

We are going to grow as a team, and we need to play the game the right way. Taking and making wide open threes is a part of playing good basketball, and it helps everyone on the team grow.

I actually think Blake would be a horrible backup for us, but a potentially decent starter for another team, or for us if we get a playmaker/point small forward.

Look at our White Team. Let's say that Sergio's gone, and it's some combination of Blake/Rudy/Webster/Outlaw/Przy. You don't need another shooter on that squad...you need a distributor/traffic cop. A decent defender would be nice, but I'm not reaching for the moon here. Blake is neither of those.

Steve Blake is the 3rd-best SG on this team (maybe 4th if Webs is healthy--but that's another debate). STOMP made an amazing point that Kerr was able to play PG b/c Scottie was the de facto PG from the 3.

Blake, imo, could play the role (I think) we all want him to play...for about 1/3 of the HOU series he was aggressive...hitting the open 3 while having a moment in Game 3 (iirc) where he had 3 assists for P&R dunks in a row--and then never went back to it. He's well below-average in leading the break.

Could Rudy be the distributor? He clearly likes to pass and is an unselfish teammate.
