What's the most you would give up for Ben Simmons?

What I still don’t understand is why we would trade Dame to Philly if we are going to trade him.

Let’s say Philly’s plan goes as they hope:
  • We get off to a horrible start and continue our bad preseason play
  • We find ourselves like 10th in the west come January
  • Everyone is pointing fingers and Dame grows distant from the team. He’s going through the motions. He finally signals to the org (probably not publicly): get me out of here.
Why, even if all this happens, would we take the Sixers package? I suspect Neil would refuse out of spite knowing what they did this summer.

And if we trade Dame, we’re blowing it up. We wouldn’t want Simmons, we’d want blue chip players 22 and under + 3ish picks.

The only way this happens for Philly is that Dame asks out AND he wants to go to Philly AND Philly finds a third team that wants Ben and can give us blue chip players and unprotected picks.

Seems unlikely.

Dame/Powell/RoCo/Simmons/Nurk is a top 4 seed but the downgrade from having Dame as your number one option to having CJ or Simmons as your number one option would be devastating. The team you're putting up there would be worse than what we have now and therefore if Dame wants out you have to blow it up. You don't rebuild with CJ as a franchise cornerstone. Bleh, makes me sick to my stomach.

As was reported throughout the offseason, most of the offers coming in have been far below Philly's big sticker price. The Sixers think time will be kind to them on that front, boosted by the fact that Simmons can't threaten to simply walk in free agency for quite a while, unlike most players in this position. As the honeymoon period comes to an end, they're confident more opportunities will come their way.

Olshey needs to let Morey know that under no circumstances will he ever trade Lillard to the Sixers.

I'm slightly irritated that Rich Paul has not made the situation more ugly.

There was a report that Simmons is simply "going through the motions" in practice this week. And teammates are still repeatedly being asked questions about him in media availability. Philly can talk a tough game about holding on now, but I want to see how long that can last once they start losing and the players get more frustrated

You underrate CJ. He’s played very well as number one option when we’ve needed him to do so.
 
CJ dedicated a segment to Simmons on his pod. Nothing groundbreaking but kinda funny to hear him discussing it considering his name also being thrown around all over the place.
 
Oh boy.... it's not gonna be easy to fix this dude. This can't be true, but the speculation is wild. Helps drive down his value even further.

when Dame has been out cj’s numbers are not that far from Dames per game.

Dame has much better overall range but doesnt come close to the mid range foot work cj has.

not sure its as massive as some think

If we trade Dame; would Simmons be too old for a rebuild?

His game relies entirely on athleticism, which NBA players peak at age 26-28.

It seems like if we trade Dame we'd be aiming to be a playoff team maybe 4 or more years from now, and contend a few years after that, at which point Ben is well into his 30's and years past his prime.

It would make more sense to have a bunch of draft picks like OKC got for Paul George than have the next couple seasons of a peak athletic Simmons when the team isn't trying to contend.
 
Philly is going to have trouble with doing a straight up trade to another team for Simmons because of this dynamic in my prior post. All the teams who want to acquire Simmons will be wanting to win now, he only makes sense in Portland WITH Dame. In that case other teams will not be giving up all star level players.

The 6ers need a 3rd team involved, one team to take Simmons for picks, a 3rd team to take picks for an allstar they send to Philly. Multi team trades are much harder to pull off. Now it happens with role players, but for stars???? I can't think of the last time we saw a 3 team trade midseason for two allstars.

They don't necessarily have to structure it as a three-team deal. If they're willing to be patient (and Morey is trying to signal that they are), they could deal Simmons for draft capital/prospects and then wait for a star to become available and try to use those assets. It's risky, but it might be a wiser route for them than trying to find one team that matches up and/or taking on a lesser player just to consummate a deal.

He IS the rebuild. Portland instantly becomes defensively elite (especially if we insist on Thybulle as well) instead of offensively elite (or: neither, which it has been in the preseason). You see what you've got, and also pump up CJ's value because he's the only scorer.

Trading Dame defeats the purpose entirely. Just an awful idea, unless they include Embiid as well.
