What's the most you would give up for Ben Simmons?

I would not trade anything at this point for Ben cause he is showing even unhappy he is more content on spreading his BS around then sucking it up and trying to show to teams that MIGHT want to trade for him he is worth it. As far as I am concerned I kind of hope the next time he practices he blows out a knee or something maybe that will allow him to gain some focus or something as of right now he is a waste of time and space.

I find this kinda thinking ridiculous.

1. they have been trying to trade him since last fall.
2. he asked out in June.
3. morey isn't negotiating in good faith (by all accounts).
4. they have been withholding his salary due to his absence.
5. they only want him to come back and practice/play this season to increase his trade value.
6. they will still trade him no matter what when they get the value they're seeking.

What incentive is there to show up and be engaged when the conclusion of all this still ends up being his eventual departure? Does it really matter that he participate in defensive slide drills, when the moment Morey gets his asking price, Ben's bags will be packed?

Maybe it's the millennial in me that espouses this thought process-- but if my employer just wants to get rid of me the moment they get my replacement, why should i show up and help them?

I agree, no doubt what Simmons is doing now is squarely on him, and he is acting like a spoilt baby.

But what I meant more so was, the Sixers let it get to this point, it didn’t need too so I think they deserve more blame. If I was Ben right now today, I would show up, be a pro and increase my trade value so he could get traded quicker.

But it didn’t need to get to this is my main point, the Sixers had their chance to trade him this off-season. The Sixers are where they are at today because they didn’t trade him this summer when they have every chance too. And its put the organization and Simmons in a even more awkward spot than it already was.

Agreed. Ben's behavior is not great. But it has been the lack of real leadership within the 76ers org that has turned this into a circus.

I can't blame Ben for the situation. It would be great if he would handle it better, but he's not to blame here....
 
Teams will line up with offers a couple weeks into the season. You can be sure phones are working and his agent is at work.
Morey knows he’s the auctioneer.

Its not. Im just saying ive worked hard up until the last minute of the last day for a job so that when searching for the next one it looks good on the resume.
I wasnt tossed under the bus like Morey did Ben though.

Still im sure he wouldn't be getting as much flack about being a quitter and more people here would welcome him in a trade if he pushed through and worked hard until traded.

I just switched jobs in May. I gave my two week notice and worked like a dog those last two weeks with 13 hr days to complete a project that had a deadline upcoming. I did it to maintain my professional relationship and not burn bridges.

My supervisor's reaction was of complete indifference. While my colleagues appreciated the work I did, at the end of the day, I was simply a number to the organization and my feeling of myself being hard to replace was misguided.

Welcome to corporate America.

nah i get it.

and most of the time is not easy to find out how an employee left their previous job.
However Ben is under the microscope. I would think it would behoove him to try to show an impressive work ethic to the league for whoever trades for him?

im just trying to think of him taking the high road. The load road is certainly understandable considering his situation.

I'm still on the fence about trading for Simmons; but this is rational behavior, showing up so he can get paid but not engaging so he makes sure he gets traded.
 
If you value character at all, you stay away. If you think (like all coaches and players and teams it seems) ‘oh we can change that, he will be different for us’ then you go for it I guess. It works out well for women who think they can change a POS guy all the time.

from a risk standpoint, what do WE have to lose (especially if all we give up CJ + some combo of picks)? We're a middling playoff team that has a finite 2nd round ceiling if things break right.

If Ben shows up here unmotivated and we lose, are we really in that much worse of a situation than we're in now? But if he shows up fully engaged and transforms our defense and addresses our weakness, we will be somewhat closer to contending than we are in status quo.

The risk/reward in the a potential Simmons trade still makes it a no-brainer for me, even given his prima-donna behavior.

I'll be really surprised if these fines hold up; they will be appealed by his agent and players association.

yeah...the Blazers are in purgatory. They have one of the nicer houses in purgatory, but the address of that house is still on a cul-de-sac. That's what they'd be risking, and that's really not risking much

Also, why risk an injury when he knows the situation is beyond repair and will be playing for another team at some point? These guys only have 1 body. Why practice hard and risk injuring your means of livelihood for people who threw you under a bus?
 
This might not sway Morey, but I can see Doc Rivers being pissed. Half the team is now going to side with Embiid and the other half is going to be rolling their eyes and saying "hey, dude's just doing what he has to". So that's going to split the team right there.

Why would any player side with Simmons when he's essentially telling them all he doesn't want to play with them?

Because they understand the business? And they know the franchise would trade any one of them at the drop of a hat if it saw the least advantage in it? So they know that Simmons' isn't saying "fuck you guys" he's saying "fuck this organization"

The risk is we have a guy who is an awful teammate and has four years left at makes 35m a year who nobody wants to play with and is uncoachable.

Two wrongs don't make a right. He disrespected every teammate by dogging it in practice.
