I just recently had vacation at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond. Bend is BEAUTIFUL and the people were wonderfully nice.

So, basically you are saying Redmond sucks.

I don't think you'll get any disagreement there.

No... Not at all... Eagle Crest is amazing. As for the City of Redmond, I don't really know. We spent most of our time at the resort or in Bend.

Just having fun - I know you didn't mean it that way, but one could (if one enjoys that sort of thing) read it that way.

Bump.

Kaman recently bought property in Bend.

LaMarcus has property there as well.

I remember hearing that a few NFL players live there in the summer.

Is Bend becoming a retirement destination for the rich?

It's our version of Vale....ski town...more sunshine than most Oregonian cities..clean..trendy...to expensive for poor folks to live there

Maybe they'll surround it with glass and shoot into space like Elysium when we all get sick and become walking sleep-deprived zombies.

I don't get this higher cost thing you guys are saying about Bend. Housing's cheaper on average in Bend than Portland ($349K vs $385k). Costco's the same cost and so is Netflix. What more do you need?

It's basically the Beaverton of Beautiful Central Oregon.

All sprawl.

Depends on the job. A friend of mine is a civil engineer in Bend and I think he makes as much as comparable positions in the Portland area.

If he's a friend of yours I doubt he's very civil.

I love Bend but from the little I know about you Portland is probably more your style. I would choose Hawaii over both though.

Lived in bend from second grade to about 27 years old. Love it. Hated when californians began to over run and inflate then crash the housing market. Was way too expensive to live. Never understood young people who couldnt wait to leave cause there was nothing to do?

Both are excellent cities to live 20-40 miles away from. Both have tons of food, beer, and local music/arts/things to do. Both are always great real estate investments.

You probably won't be as likely to die in a gang drive-by or Muslim suicide bombing in Bend, though. :dunno:

I choose Bend everytime over Portland but only if I've made my nest egg, have my companion and don't need to start a career.....if I'm starting the journey and undecided at 25 I'm living in Portland..my son and future daughter in law will live in Bend...she grew up there, they love it. I go to the micro brew festivals, etc, in Bend and enjoy it...if you like sunshine...there's no better place in Oregon
