seems to be addressing the messaging issue with black lives matter.
"Token"
Progressives gentrify the shit out of black neighborhoods and then scream about how racist Republicans are. I think Bernie will fall short in the end and Hillary will drag us through a scandalous 8 years of dreck. I'll write in Bernie or vote 3rd party.
I hope he runs as a third party candidate to draw votes away from Hillary, other than that, I would never consider voting for a socialist of any kind.
Rich people masquerading as progressives do that. And no, I'm not saying they're plants, because I agree with you about that aspect. I think that the people who do this, don't realize it prices out the people in those neighborhoods and just pushes them further out of town.
In my brothers neighborhood, which isn't a nice nor a bad neighborhood, just a normal one, there is a new housing development being made. The houses in his neighborhood are 50+ year old houses, probably worth between 290-400K. The new development (about 30 houses) STARTS at 550K.
Not that it's causing my brother to move, but it's artificially inflating the value of the neighborhood he lives in.
That's what gentrification does, regardless of what the owners skin color is.
I don't, agree, that this is racism as much as it's people living in a bubble. A bubble where you think just making houses nicer doesn't come with unwritten expenses.
The bubble knows no political party.

he rejects that as a possible outcome of his campaign in this feb. 15 articleI hope he runs as a third party candidate to draw votes away from Hillary, other than that, I would never consider voting for a socialist of any kind.

Off topic, but how does having nice houses in your neighborhood hurt you? If it drives up the cost of your home, isn't that a good thing? I would much rather have nice development around my home than have a ghetto. I don't get the "gentrification" argument at all. I heard one group protesting a trader joes. Somehow that was "gentrification". Do you want to live in a place with jobs and nice buildings or a ghetto? We have no shortage of ghettos in this country.

property taxes. value of the houses.
but the bigger point is that peoples houses are bought for X dollars. The people come in and either fix it up real nice or tear it down and rebuild it...and then try to sell it. And it's now Y value, (where Y is bigger than X).
Prices people out of neighborhoods.
So the argument is that they are driven out of their homes by rising property taxes? Most home owners want the value of their home to rise. And anyway, the rise and fall of real estate values have nothing to do with race. Some black people seem to have this idea that white people conspire to improve an area to drive out black people. It's so absurd.
And as another poster mentioned, the prior generation of civil rights activists wanted to end segregation, and now this generation seems to be complaining about integration. It's like they are afraid the ghetto is going away. We should all hope that ghettos go away and everyones communities improve. But unfortunatly, there will probably always be ghettos here. The same thing works in reverse, where communties age, and the poor move in and the wealthy move out. It's no conspiracy, it's just the way things roll. For people to get up and scream about it is just ridiculous.
