DMX????....come on now man, X is just a disgrace nowadays. and Em sings songs about his daughter because he has nothing else to talk about.....how can you say that they're 2 of the "best" MC's out now.

maybe its not 2 of the best but 2 i like...i like eminem cuz of the albums hes dropped before and same with DMX but yeah i guess they arent the best right now

but i still stick with my other two

Nas my alltime fav. and Lupe Fiasco

yeah don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE fan of both X and Em when they were at their best.

Lupe doesn't have enough material to be called the best yet, and no he doesn't write for Kanye West, Carter.

It's Nas....

How? The only strong point Game has is his delivery. Where is his wordplay, concepts? All he does is name drop and he is not better than Jay any day of the week. Wayne's random punchlines in songs>Game's pointless name dropping in songs.

i only needed to hear a few of lupes songs to be convinced hes good

"The game" has been over for several years. Sad how the best rappers of today are Common, Lupe Fiasco, and GFK, not that they are bad musicians but compared to the besst hip hop artists from 80's to early 2000's they're very average.

The Golden Age of Hip Hop is the early 90's, and thats when Ghostface was most prominent, so I don't know what your talking about because he has been tight and been around. Also Lupe just released his first album so how can you compare him to somebody who dropped in the 80s? Common has also been around as well.

I decided to create my own list, lol:

1. Chuck D
2. Common
3. Ghostface Killah
4. Nas
5. Mos Def

Is Chuck D even in the game right now?

Public Enemy released "Rebirth of a Nation" sometime early last year.

^^^yes, Public Enemy is still droppin albums and Chuck is as potent as ever.

Jay is very medioce right now....Game name drops, but I'll pump his new material over Jays.

I hate posting in these threads because everyone is into the lyric oriented rap, which isn't a bad thing because I dig that stuff when I want to. But i'm usually listening to mainstream garbage and I dig it.

But here's the the top rappers I like listening to at this moment in no order:

T.I., Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, The Game, Young Jeezy, Pac, Pitbull, Yung Joc (It's Goin Down still gets me pumped... the lead up and then... N****S IN MY FACE DAMN NEAR ERRY DAYYY)

all these ATL guys are just makin songs to make songs

and thats why rap aint like it used to be

thats why songs like i know you see it get attention

by 2 year old can make a song like that eeny meeny mini mo

thas not rap

we talkin about rappers right now

Right now? Tough for me to answer since I dont really listen to alot of newer Rap / Hip-Hop, but I guess I'd have to go with Common or Mos Def, although from what I have heard from him, Lupe Fiasco doesnt sound too bad, so for a definitive "right now" answer, it would probally be him.

I told you that I d-loaded his album like 3 months ago, and you went "Mos Def has a new album" and I said yes, it's called Tru Magic.

LL Cool J still raps?

<div class="quote_poster">Brian Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">LL Cool J still raps?</div>

Hmm, well not exactly raps, but he still sings hip hop, which is kind of like rap. I dunno, i was just namin the favorites, i dont think it matters much.

<div class="quote_poster">Chutney Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Public Enemy released "Rebirth of a Nation" sometime early last year.</div>

Holy crap Chutney you got me with the sig. LMAO. I just typed it wrong once and didn't notice... Good one. I changed my sig though.

As for my favorite rapper, I don't know really, I'm not into any at the moment. I really dislike the mainstream scene as of now.

^ lol, nice change. It's got a real religious vibe with its' humility.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Brian:</div><div class="quote_post">Mos Def? I thought Mos Def retired for movies </div>
Nah dude, he released "Tru3 Magic" near the end of December. Apparently, his label is recalling it though, and re-releasing it around Spring with more songs and stuff. The wikipedia article says that they might've pushed it early because they wanted the extra publicity that he got with a Grammy nomination.

On a side note, I have a lot of respect for the dude as an actor and rapper. He experiments with his music, doesn't stay stagnant, and his lyrics are socially conscious. As an actor, he's pretty talented and isn't afraid to challenge himself with independant movies or roles that don't seem to fit his personality.

Nas, The Game, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Jim Jones, Royce Da 5'9, Ghostface Killah, Mos Def, Chamillionaire, J.R. Writer.

ATM.

Well it really does depend on the person. Not everyone listens to music for inspiration, political thoughts and knowledge. Some people do listen to music to just relax and chill out.

I can listen to both types of music but the extreme kind such as Dem Franchise Boyz just annoy me. I prefer to listen to music that is a crossover between street and commercial.
