...he'll be 33 in a week or so...will 4 years/$80 Mil get it done?

Now rumors are Scherzer wants 200 million and I doubt Hal will pay that so Shields is the next best. How about Shields and McCarthy?

Yeah after the Lester signing you just know Scherzer is going to be asking for some real stupid money.

...works for me, Jill...I've always liked Shields but like I said, he's older and has thrown many more pitches than Lester and Max. A 4 year deal would take him till he's nearly 38 so maybe the can snag him. Maybe even offer him more money per year for 3 years and a vested option for a 4th year.
...McCarthy also works for me. Though I really like Scherzer, I think the Yanx might be able to sign Shields and McCarthy for close to what Scherzer alone may cost. I think Boras may have scared away some suitors and Scherzer may very well ultimately end up back in Detroit.

...I saw that the Giants were very close, and offered 6 years/$150 Mil.

And I believe it was after that offer that he told the Giants that he wasn't going to the team that offers the most money. (insert laugh track here).

...lol...like I said in the other thread..."players, agents, GMs lying ?"..."nah, that never happens."

Scherzer is getting to have an ego larger than that of the Yankees returning druggist, per MLB last night Detroit is trying to get him signed, guess the improvements to the Indians and White Sox are causing concern up there. Detroit ownership has always proffered generous salaries to players they like but I think 200 million to Scherzer is a bit much.

They would then have Scherzer, Sanchez and Verlander at huge money.

Hal will pony up for Scherzer....175-185 range.

Very believable.

Last night I did see where a Detroit rep told Gammons Max won't be going back to Detroit.
We'll see if that was bullsh!t or not.

Just heard Ron Darling state that it took a lot of confidence for Scherzer to turn down that 6 year 144 million dollar deal from Detroit made early last year. I have to disagree Ron, the man plays on a Detroit Team that despite the fiscal hardships come out to support the team paying his salary. Pensioners are fighting for their lives to avoid cuts, services to different parts of the city are affected and Scherzer flips off that offer. Greedy ^&%%%$*&(* in my book.

...Tote and I had a rather heated discussion about that after Scherzer turned down that offer from Detroit.

I agree completely! Greedy

The thing you need to remember with Scherzer is, Yankee stadium is not exactly a pitchers friendly park.

Here's another possible slant after this year: Zack Greinke, at 31 can opt out of his contract AFTER 2015. I know this won't help anyone but the Bums, and Greinke will have to show a great year, to be capable of picking up the kind of money he's already making, which is a helluva lot. More than most Teams have or are willing to pay.

The Bums could be the 1st team to break the 400 Mil $$$ barrier, wonder if they'd consider a trade for Greinke, right here and now?

...you can apply the YS park factor to any pitcher...and Max isn't exactly a "pitch to contact" pitcher...he strikes out a lot of batters, has a low WHIP, doesn't give up a ton of bombs, and averages almost 7 innings per start.

...Max will pitch well wherever he ends up...he'd be a monster in the NL.

I'm only saying that warning track shots to RF in many parks will be HRs in Yankee stadium. So his 20 bombs a year could end up being closer to 30 MAYBE!

...Comerica Park is just about as hitter friendly as YS...the difference in dimensions are down the foul lines...but conversely, the power alleys are actually deeper in YS by a good bit.

The Yanks have do well against him /career - he has a .300 BBA at Yankee Stadium.
Maybe a result of the Yanks' past good hitting teams. Not so last year.
He gave up same amount HRs last year home/away - 9/9 with 48 more PA on the road.

I would tho' much rather see MaX sign with NY, in lieu of any other AL Team, go for broke if that's what it takes, even tho' I'm still a bit leary of his pro-nation, tho' time will allow me to get over that....'

Imagine if the Bums could land Max, that may be just what the Dr. ordered for a NLCS Champion, Kershaw, Greinke, Scherzer, Ryu, and NO NOT Haren as #5, yet seems the Bums screwed themselves into having to pay Haren $10 Million this year. Hell, I'd rather of seen Becket kept, even with a 6-6 record his ERA was under 3.00 while Haren's is over 4.00

Dead baggage the Bums are stuck with.....!!!

Say the Yanx get Max.....then where does Shields land?

With The Bums? I hear/read they are quit Bummed to not of wound up with Lester, (pun intended), but seriously, just what the Bums need, to get into and win an NLCS....or more perhaps...
