Seems a bit sloppy to talk about how the 76ers "landed" Petteri's rights, considering his rights ended up with Portland.

I love Martell, but considering we could have basically taken DWill and CP3 instead, I thought he might make the list.

It's amazing that some people actually think Oden is a bust after only a year in the league.

Not really. TWO years in the league and only 60 odd games played.....that is Bowie/Pervis Ellison territory.

Yeah, but the guy had surgery before he even played a game. It takes a while to come back from that completely. If GO doesn't make a significant impact next season, I will be willing to concede that he is heading towards bust territory.

Even if Oden has the same kind of year he had last year, he is still a little bit away from being called a bust. Because his defending abilities of other bigs in the league is a valuable asset regardless of how much hype he had and that he was the #1 pick of one of the strongest draft classes of the decade.

Oden is a bust if all he ends up being is a quality defender, considering where he was picked and the players picked after him.

Given the level of pre-draft hype, Oden was pretty much doomed to disappoint many fans. The comparisons to Shaq/Hakeem/Robinson were way over-the-top for a kid who only had part of one college season behind him. To that extent, you are correct.

OTOH, if Oden reaches his potential as a rebounding/defensive monster, he will still be one of the top two players out of that draft.

(I am now going to grab some popcorn, and wait for the "Durant sucks" chorus of sour grapes! :biglaugh:)

LeBrick James. Dude hasn't done shit. Even Wade has a ring. And Bosh wasn't expected to be amazing and neither was Melo. You can all disagree but LeBron has yet to deliver.

That is called INJURY. Not lack of skill. There is a difference between being injured and sucking ass. How many times do we have to explain that on this forum?

Neither Bowie nor Ellison "sucked ass", and both are regarded as huge flops. Now you want the world to change the rules for Oden? Not gonna happen.

An interesting note, Oden missed 7 games in his freshman year. So he played more than "part" of the year. He played in something like 32 of 39 games or something like that.

Old man. Take your pills and read again. I don't give a fuck what they are regarded as. The fact is, there is a difference between being a bust and injury prone.

Darko is a bust. Nicholas Tskitishvili is a bust. Bowie was injured. Ellison was injured.

Learn the difference, old man.
:sigh:

I hope this is a joke...LeBron is the best all around player in basketball.

There is a difference between sucking and being hurt, but a player can be a bust for either reason.

Len Bias didn't suck, and yet wouldn't everyone agree he was a bust for the Celtics?

I don't think that Oden is anything APPROACHING a bust. He's been pretty good when he's been on the floor, and he's still younger than either Bowie or Ellison were when they entered the NBA.

He could still evolve into a bust--either because of injury or inability to dominate--but I don't think he's close to that yet.

Ed O.

I still wish Ammo was a Blazer, when they traded Sergio in the summer we should have traded him for Morrison the kids got potential.

Sorry I have been stressed out lately. My 20 month old son has been in ICU since Thursday because his mothers boyfriend beat him up. He has a fracture on his skull and times have been hard this week. I took it out on the forum again. I knew I shouldn't have pressed "post" when I wrote that... but I did anyways.

I am sorry and if you need to temp ban me for it, I will accept.

Very sorry to hear about that. As a father, I can understand. Consider it forgotten.

I hope your little one is OK.

I really feel bad now. I promise it wont happen again. Thank you for being kind and accepting my apology.

You're pressing charges I presume?

Who said it was "one of the strongest draft classes of the decade"?

That can't be true.

It was labeled a two player draft - Oden, the rebounding & defending beast in the post, and Durant, the future NBA Scoring champ.

Two players does not make a draft.

After Durant, who did the Blazers miss out that books to be written about the subject years from now? Yi? Horford? Brewer? Conley? Green? Noah? Wright?

Some of those players are good. Some suck. But, so far, none are making anybody cry in their soup over not nabbing instead of Oden. Nothing even close to the pass on Chris Paul so we can move down and draft Webster fiasco.

The only reason some folks might call Oden a bust is if he is injury prone and thus ineffective, and Durant - who the Blazers could have drafted - becomes a multiple all-star.

That draft was bad! Greg is still gonna be the man, watch! Durant will be a scoring champ, but never win a playoff series.

I agree. Martell should be on that list for sure. Kedrick Brown taken 11? Korolev taken 12th? Those aren't blue chip NBA prospects that far down in a draft. They may have flamed out of the NBA, but so did LOTS of other players. So what? Did those teams pass on an ALL-NBA talent?

Sounds like a touchy subject around these parts.

Oden cant be a bust unless he flames out. Since he appears to be on an upward trend, and 21 yr old centers often take years to develop, Id say the kid deserves a few years before anyone starts tossing around the bust card.

Webster gets a pass still because of his age. High schoolers aren't typically branded busts for at least 4 or 5 seasons. Before then they just have "rocky starts." People don't really hold last year against Webster because of the injury. And he still has the same sweet-looking (although not overwhelmingly superior in effectiveness) jump shot and the NBA body.

My guess is that by the end of this season he'll be legitimately placed in the "bust" category.

He's kind of in the same category as Darko--certainly an NBA-level talent, but a guy who had no business being picked ahead of several franchise players.
