Thinks Rubio has more value than Lillard. Says Beal is more valuable than Dame and thinks the same for next year.

There were quality role players available last summer like Reggie Evans, Randy Foye, Carlos Delfino, Matt Barnes, Nate Robinson … heck, even Kenyon Martin and Chris Andersen would have helped them. They proactively wanted to stink. Paul Allen isn't any more competent than Robert Sarver; he just has more money and a better Wikipedia page.

I dont' see anything wrong with that view. He thinks Beal is going to be more valuable because of position and age, doesn't like Lillard because of how deep PG is and how he reminds him of Stoudamire. Oh yea and Lillard is a Blazer so Simmons will rip on him anyway.
 
First time I've even looked at something of his in at least a year, I think. Still can't stand the guy, and didn't read much of it other than the Blazer blurbs. Meh, don't really care. Thing that annoy sme most about him, and I used to really like his articles, is how forced a lot of the correlation to pop culture stuff comes off. Like that's his schtick, and he has to find a way to fit some correlation to a TV show every other paragraph. Unfortunately, he seems to do it during pregame/ half time on the air also.
 
He does this shit on purpose. He's a smart guy and knows we have a rabid fanbase and a small town mentality.
 
I guess my thought is that you only have to have a shtick if you aren't talented enough to do it on your smarts alone. It's like talking basketball with a Lakers fan that can't name more than 3 players on the team. Worthless and pointless.
 
I can't stand Simmons. I don't even read Grantland because I find him so irritatingly whiney and superior and unfunny.

I love Simmons. Don't understand why people get irritated by him.
 
I like Simmons on ABC, when he's talking crap to Magic, but most of the time he just seems like someone who is trolling.

For example, everyone here knows (including Bill Simmons himself) if Lillard was playing on Boston, he'd be acting like he's the best thing since odor eaters.

That comparison alone should have Simmons fired from being a TV analyst. The only thing those two had in common was they played for Portland. Damon was a tiny PG who couldn't finish at the rim. Simmons was just trolling.

I think it is a bad comparison as well, but what they do have in common is they both were ROY PGs.
 
He has a point, but he's overselling it.

Lillard probably needs to step up his game each of the next two or three seasons. From 18 points per 36 to 25 per or even 30. His defense has to improve, too.

But geez, the guy's a rookie. There aren't many guys you can think have a real chance to go from 18 to 25 points per 36. Lillard gets you a seat at that table.

The very best players in the league. My point was 30 is what you'd like to see him do.

I mean, we all liked Andre Miller, but he was never going to be the best player in the league or even in that discussion. Lillard might get into that discussion.
 
Dude, no one in the league scores even 28 pts per 36. That number would make Dame the most elite scorer in the game.

Carmelo is the closest at 28 point something.

If Lillard did that he would be MVP of the league and the best player. Love the kid but he isn't ever going to be the #1 player in all of the league.
 
I actually find Simmons really entertaining on podcasts and on TV, not a big fan of his writing at all. He has raved about Lillard all season long on his podcast, he actually seems to really like him which makes it seem like this article he just felt like hoping on the "Lillard is overrated" bandwagon thats been going around since that tool from ESPN wrote that horrible article using "advanced" stats to say Anthony Davis is way better then Lillard.

Sorry but it is unrealistic to say that Dame will be one of the top 50 nba players of all time. He isn't overrated if he doesn't reach their level. That was just a ludacris number you threw out. Dame doesn't have to come anywhere close to those numbers to not be overrated especially when no one is doing it lately.

So to shed the "overrated" label that some of the pundits have heaped on him, he only has to match the production of the best player of all time.

I think Damian can win an MVP award in this league. I have no doubt. He'll be at superstar level next season.

I can see superstar (not next year though, allstar first) and I am a pretty big homer but on MVP...

So was Derrick Rose, and so was Kyrie Irving, the players Lillard compares better with at this point of his career in terms of size and ability to get to the rim, as well as hit outside shots.

Simmons was just trolling, though, and I get why he does it.
