It is a serious problem. And, it seems to be a convenient rebuttal for several here whenever we talk about racism and white people killing black people.

So let's look at it. Why are black people killing black people? Because of a racist societal structure that has marginalized and disenfranchised African Americans. A majority percentage of impoverished Americans are African Americans. Poverty, not to mention the lack of opportunity and privelage in black communities lead to a feeling of powerlessness.

They are abandoned by society and end up in the streets, in gangs, a place where they can feel powerful and in control. They can feel like they belong. To keep that power and to gain more they end killing each other.


Now enough distraction let's get back to the issue at hand. Police brutality against African Americans. A racist societal structure that needs to be changed.

This isn't new. Every time there is serious discussion on racism and police brutality the usual suspects bring up black on black crime and every crime committed by a black person against a white person. I guess it's supposed to prove that racism doesn't really exist or something.
 
Using black on black crime as a get out of discourse free card is silly because systemic racism causes ack on black crime. When you live in segregated redlined neighborhoods (because of systemic racism), neighborhoods with massive poverty (because of systemic racism), most of the people you interact with are the same race as you (because segregation is a symptom of systemic racism). By a matter of course because of the poverty and desperation, you end up turning to crime against people of the same race as you (because of the systemic racism that put you in a redlined district with no infrastructure investment).

so yeah, go ahead and mention it but guess what, black on black crime is not a bug, it’s a feature of systemic racism and the pressure cooker it puts people in poverty in.
 
Amused but not surprised by some of the knee jerk responses...and denial...and claims.

This should have been done several weeks back. It would have saved a few lives and business's.
Personally I dont look at this group as protesters for a genuine resolve to social injustice but rather a combination of anarchist, thiefs, and trouble makers. Their end result is sad.

I thought the CHOP was fucking awesome. They had a warlord and all that shit. Also funny because it happened in a really liberal part of the city and they got their shit fucked all up.

I once worked with a very nice Vietnamese girl at Tektronix. One time I had dinner with her and her husband. The husband was changing his shirt and I saw what I thought was a swastika tattooed on his shoulder. I was shocked. Imagine the relief I got when a couple weeks later I learned that the symbol was backwards and had to do with his Buddhist religion.

No, I know them and they are absolutely not racist.
They had a friend that came over for another dinner and spent the whole evening bitching about Blacks and saying they were useless. I asked them how they felt about that talk and they said they did not like it at all. They never said a word to that prick. I tried reasoning with him and gave up on him as impossible to reason with.
No, they are not racist. Don't know about the many others that I worked with but they all seemed to get along fine with the lead technician, Paul Green, brother of famous football player Woody Green.
