You've been around long enough to know that this has been said by both sides about both sides.
To know it's truly never going to happen.
Therefore I hope you're fighting memes with memes.
imagine telling this to an old slave 350 years ago and adding that one day we'll have a black president...or telling me in the 1950s that I could see someones face in another country on a watch and talk to them without any cords or lines....Dick Tracy shit....well, both have happened. I have children and grandchildren...that means I have optimism about life in the future here...if not, what's the point?

Over time, the world (and this country) drifts left, at least on social issues. And of course our understanding of science, medicine and technology is always growing. So, given enough time, things do improve. But that's only over longer stretches of time--in the short term, things can and do get worse at times, like these past few years.

I think humans are designed to have higher intellectual ideals than their emotions can handle...design flaw built in I guess

I know. Its not just political. There's a common theme to it all. Just have to figure out what it is.

The common theme is it's a very bad year for Trump. This will continue to happen across every state. There are very few states were it hasn't if any. It will get worse. Trump will call in the military everywhere and militarize cities. This will piss people off more. He will be voted out in November.

I guess all it needed was a lit match, and we got several....

I read some of the posts in this thread and get pissed-off...but that feeling dies down quickly because I know there's no reasoning with hard heads, and less than 0 reasons to argue

* I have no doubt at all that extremists from both sides of the spectrum are at the root of a lot of this violence and destruction. From the left there are idiots that want anarchy and chaos. From the right there are idiots that want race wars and chaos. They are all fucking assholes in my book.

* the video where cops shoot people on their own porches, in their own neighborhoods, with paintball rounds is a great metaphor for the major problem we have and why blacks keep getting killed by police. Police departments all over have been militarized. They use dis-proportional responses; and they act like they are on patrol in Fallujah or Kabul instead of Minneapolis or Louisville. They look at certain blocs of people as the enemy, and enemies are always less than human. Step on their throats for control....or kneel on the throat is that works. Serve and protect has been replaced with 'light em up'

* I don't agree that this is going to rile up trump's base. That's because they are always riled up with heavy portions of hatred and resentment. Ignorance is fuel for the engine too. They are going to show up and vote no matter what. I just don't believe there will be many 'leaners' in the next election that could be swayed by 6 month old memory of riots

* the anger fueling these protests is justified. From Emmett Till, thru Rodney King, and George Floyd, the victims & corpses keep piling up and nothing seems to change. And the system seems to protect those in blue uniforms over those in black skins. If you're a young black man or woman....or anybody with a conscience for that matter, you're going to be pissed off. It's a national tantrum right now

They had the perfect cover of riots and lawlessness.

I'm not sure if you actually believe that, or if the character you play on this forum is the one that believes that, but since it's probably something on the minds of other people too, I'll say this: I'm sure there are some bad actors who just see this as an opportunity to steal stuff, but there are also a lot of people who see things like what happened to George Floyd and feel powerless in a society that has marginalized them since the inception of the nation. Breaking things, taking things gives them a feeling of control that they need emotionally at times like this, when the community is essentially venting rage.

Well said.

I agree, you humans should not play characters on the forum.

I always believe what I post.

These people were having fun destroying and looting and assaulting.

Sure, there's some big outrage about injustice, but this was them knowing they can destroy and assault with no repercussions. They showed what kind of rabid animals they truly are. No civilization. Just zero education hoodlums who will destroy themselves and their community. These are the dregs and trash of society.

How can you guys even argue this? Just answer this...Since the beginning of April (2 months!) whos been on the side of opening things up and whos been wanting to shut everything down?
I think 100,000 people have died in 3 months. Seems kind of bad. and that’s with locking everything down. If we didn’t? It’s what, 500,000? More? Then would it have been a big deal to you? This drives me crazy. “See- this was overblown only 100,000 dead”- yeah ONLY because we locked shit down.

If you think these riots are bad just wait till Trump and his foreign friends steal the election this fall. Should be fun.

It will be 10 times worse than this if that happens

If that actually happens I can promise you I will be at the front of the barricades......

Where? Where are you going to protest at?

Not trying to start shit, it's an honest question.

Protesting in downtown Portland won't do anything but harm innocent people and businesses.

How far are you willing to travel so your protesting has any sort of meaningful impact?
