I guess the state troopers closed the highway. The driver probably just didn't give a fuck, in addition to possibly be high on drugs or drunk.

Officials were trying to determine the motive as well as where he got onto the interstate, which had been closed by the state patrol for more than an hour before the women were hit. Mead said they suspect Kelete drove the wrong way on a ramp. Trooper Rick Johnson said the driver went through a barrier that closed the freeway before striking the women.

  • Thousands of Americans have continued police brutality and racial inequality protests across the country on the Fourth of July
  • The holiday comes amid increasing divisiveness over President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, systematic racism found in several societal institutions and police brutality
  • Black Panther members arrived to Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial in Georgia to protest its reopening because of its ties to the Ku Klux Klan
  • Protesters in New York City burned an American flag near Trump Tower and crowds swarmed the streets
  • Several other protests were held in Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and more

It time the trouble makers (not peaceful protesters) stop they're nightly disrespect for property. At some point they need to divert their energy to helping the cause rather than hurting it. Unless thats their intensions, which it colukld be.

"I was driving through on the freeway on-ramp. There was a van parked in the middle of the road and I swerved to avoid it. There were people all over the road walking and I hit some on accident. I drove away because I was scared for my life as they seemed like they were going to attack me, as has been done on so many occasions".

The driver may have been drunk or high on drugs though. Who knows.

watching the video closely. You cN see him seem to brake and swerve right to avoid the van. In swerving right, he looks to maybe start sliding, tried to correct back onto the road and right into the females.

Question. Was the highway closed on the entrance ramp he used? If not, how owuld he know it is closed untiL he comes up on the parked van?

ever been on the highway at 60 and come up on a parked vehicle? They come FAST!

people should not be on the freeways without government approval and full highway and onramp closures.

Im sorry. Protest On the capital lawn. Not on Your neighbors commute to work....or get a full permit first.

looks like the freeway was closed....

How did he get on the freeway? Did he blast through barricades?

the police believe he entered the freeway going the other direction, which was not closed by barricade, and crossed the median to change direction

further, there were street lights and the area was well illuminated. Unless he was half blind he should have had no trouble seeing the white van. I mean, that video wasn't shot thru a night vision lens, it's shot from a couple hundred yards away, and there's no problem seeing not only the white van but also the people. The guy was either criminally reckless or pissed off and targeting the protestors.

there's no practical reason to be stretching for excuses for what this driver did. I'm kind of tired of the protests myself. But at the same time I realize that this is about the 10th time over the last 40 years there have been national protests, and riots, about racism and police misconduct....and nothing seems to change. In fact, if anything, the police seem more militant, more racist, and less accountable right now than they ever have been. So the rationalization for the protests continuing may be justified.

when intoxicated you dont see or think clearly.
Its all around sad no doubt. If he did what is reported them he is a top shelf idiot, possibly an attempted murderer. Intent will be tough to prove if he was intoxicated though.

It's called manslaughter and drunk drivers get convicted of it whenever they kill someone when drunk driving.

Whatever, it should not get the death penalty.

It shouldn't, but it did.

It is ironic that they were protesting Black Lives Matter and were ultimately killed by a black man.

7 arrested, accused of racial harassment, illegal fireworks on Oregon coast beach

Police arrested seven men on the central Oregon coast Saturday night following an alleged racist incident during a Fourth of July celebration on the beach.

Lincoln City Police said the men were part of a group of 10 white people from Clark County, Washington, who had been harassing a Black family by yelling racial slurs and using Nazi salutes as people spent the holiday on the beach in front of the Inn at Spanish Head in Lincoln City.

After officers arrived, they formed a barricade between the group and the family, allowing the family to safely leave the beach, police said.

Members of the group, who police said were “highly intoxicated,” then began taunting the officers, challenging them to a fight and setting off illegal aerial fireworks, according to the police department. Ahead of the holiday weekend, Lincoln City officials warned people against using illegal fireworks, threatening “consequences” for those who did.

Additional officers arrived at the beach and arrested the seven men on several charges, including riot, interfering with police, disorderly conduct, harassment, possession of illegal fireworks and offensive littering.

Gennadiy Kachankov, Antoliy Kachankov, Andrey Zaytsev, Oleg Saranchuk, Ruslan Tkachenko and Yuriy Kachankov, all from Clark County, as well as one man who refused to identify himself, were arrested Saturday and later released, police said.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of continued nationwide protests against systemic racism and police brutality against people of color, spurred by the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department in May.

Protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement have occurred around the Pacific Northwest, including on the central Oregon coast.

Protests have also taken place in Clark County and have renewed criticism of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department for adorning vehicles with “Thin Blue Line” stickers that are often affiliated with the “Blue Lives Matter” countermovement. The chair of the Clark County Council responded to the criticism after the sheriff ordered the stickers removed by saying that she doesn’t believe systemic racism exists in the community.

The person who died is non-binary. They/them is their preferred pronoun.
The preferred pronoun is the gender specific one. One uses "they/them" when one doesn't know the gender and you're talking about the plural or a general case.

Disgusting excuses for human beings.
