The beads were actually just payment to keep them from killing them in their sleep...the pilgrims were the ones that tweaked the language..the natives also had no concept of law suits let alone property
http://mentalfloss.com/article/12657/was-manhattan-really-bought-24

In the Dutch National Archives is the only known primary reference to the Manhattan sale: a letter written by Dutch merchant Pieter Schage on November 5, 1626, to directors of the West India Company, which was instrumental in the exploration and settlement of “New Netherland.” In the letter, he writes, “They have purchased the Island of Manhattes from the savages for the value of 60 guilders.” (There is a surviving deed for Manhattan and Long Island, but this was made well after this initial Manhattan purchase, when the Dutch had already been inhabiting the island for several decades.)

Nineteenth century historians converted those 60 guilders to U.S. dollars and got what was then $24. That same figure has been repeated for almost two centuries since, frozen in time and untouched by changes to the value of currency—but those guilders don’t stand at $24 today. According to this converter from the International Institute of Social History at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, 60 guilders in 1626 was equivalent to 734.77 euros in 2011. The exchange rate to the US dollar varies, but a conversion as I’m writing this gets us $951.08 USD, which puts us more in the ballpark.

My grandmother used to say the natives never understood why colonists wanted to live in swamps and mosquito infested areas..the indians knew better than to camp permanently on a beach or in a flood plain. The on going joke was that the natives felt really sorry for the conditions pilgrams lived in and contributed game to help feed them with something other than the moldy hard tack they thought of as food.

Funny, the Mexicans in Baja say the same thing today about the gringos being crazy for wanting to live right on the beach. Most villages in flatter coast line areas are a ½ mile from the water front, for safety reasons. They only have their fishing camps on the beaches, not their homes. The Mexicans believe the property on the water is worth less than property in higher areas a safe distances from the water.

Some day your grandmother and the Mexican fishermen will be very, very right.

See, it worked, not one person that built that pyramid/temple drowned due to sea conditions.

The sea levels have risen about 6’ just in the last 100 years. And the Mayan calendar ended with Obama as president. It’s all Obama’s fault.

It's also worth noting that that temple was probably a place where people were sent to die at the hand of some priest who would then wear their skin and eat their heart....hence, no curtains or furniture

I tried using Louis CK, Richard Pryor and Wanda Sykes clips here but it's a hard subject to joke about in the end

I watched Wanda's tv show waaaayyyyy back and I remember a scene where there was something people were doing with flags of some sort. Wanda said "flag this flag that flag you flag it......you're all just a bunch of flaggots"

It was funny, I don't remeber the exact wording and this was before she came out. Probably get fired for it today.

We were watching the first episodes of Mash on Netflix a few months ago and Trapper (I think, it wasn't Alan Alda) called a black guy "spearchucker"

The wife and I couldn't believe it.

I believe that's 6 inches, not feet, but feel free to blame Obama.

I think you are correct about the 6 inches. But I don't think anyone blames Obama for the rise. He wants to take credit for stopping the next 6 inches. Perhaps we are near it anyway.
Remember, "this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal..." Powerful! So Powerful.

In today's news, the police nailed a white one! Alright! This proves that racism doesn't exist.

http://www.jobsnhire.com/articles/2906/20120923/houston-officer-kills-double-amputee-wheelchair.htm

I sure hope they kill a lot more white ones, so that this thread can prove that racism doesn't exist.
A double amputee can't be subdued by a trained police officer...holy shit..he shot to kill a guy waiving a pen?..I've heard of poison pen letters but this is a weird story bro!

Holy hell! They really do need to do something about these cops that seek and opportunity to hear their gun go Blame!
His life was not threatened in this case, anymore than mine was when a dwarf threatened to kick my ass in a bar in Molalla
I didn't even dislodge an arm from his shoulder. The dirty secret is, I didn't want to hurt him. Geez, maybe we need a few
more cops with secret weakness instead of opportunity seekers.

At least he's consistent. He gives us the same dismissive "you don't REALLY know" argument when we bitch about referees. In his world, we don't understand racism and we don't understand refereeing basketball.

It's true you really don't know....
Agree, using humor is a great teaching tool.

Another great teaching tool is sharing real life experiences. There have been many good personal stories shared on this site.

I can not remember Dviss 1 every sharing a story about a time he was abused by police or a victim of racism.

I would like to invite Dviss 1 to share a personal story to help us better understand racism against blacks. Not the "we deal with it everyday" line, but an example explaining what has happened to him.

Why should I share with my personal stories with people who truly don't give a shit? I have plenty. But I'll tell you a story of when I was 6 years old. My sister and I were outside playing on the sidewalk. A group of young white men maybe in their twenties drove down our street and stopped their car. The driver got out and dumped his cigarette ashtray all over me. He then proceeded to say that I was going to grow up and be another nigger in prison and that his kind was going to make sure that it happened. I was 6 fucking years old...

Diminish the brand.

Insinuate you have this one thing in common. You don't.

Denny you are sitting the nail right on the head here. This is exactly how I feel when someone says all lives matter in response to the BLM movement.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see white people complaining about institutionalized racism.

When you give your anecdotes about police brutality and you act like they treat you the same as they treat us, you are diminishing the brand.

Sure, a lot of people were done wrong. How you deal with reparations (for the Japanese) or other compensation for harms done in the past depends on the situations, obviously.

No irishman today in the USA is poorly treated. Side with stormfront if you dare.

The attempt to diminish the ongoing poor treatment of black people is just sad.

It's like it's an affront to him. Same thing as Mar Azul. When we complain about our treatment as a whole it is diminished with statements like his. Stop whining he's told me...

Does your belly obscure your dick from view? Or were you always myopic.

You post some really stupid shit sometimes... the privilege that you have of not caring is truly on display.
