I disagree with the premise in the link. Yes, I think (and from over a decade ago have thought) that Maher is a smug douche that knows just enough to be comic with a certain set of people. However, anyone who remembers David Ehrenstein and Rush Limbaugh not being reprimanded for "Barack the Magic Negro" wouldn't get into too much of a tizzy over this

haha rush is just as big of a fuckball as this so called comic. the difference is that rush has been lambasted by the media several times for saying dumb things, and every time he is, the media spins it dirrectly onto the GOP. Maher and his ilk can say whatever he wants, true or not and suffer zero reprecussions.

Brian, if you were to say anything remotely close to that you would stand before the mast in the very least.

We're in different categories. :dunno:

Personally, I think it's a horribly un-PC thing to say. But when even guys I'd expect to jump up and scream like Al Sharpton laugh off Rush (and Maher, if they were to even acknowledge it) then I'm not that concerned. It's one guy, saying one thing.

Was Michael Richards' schtick based on saying outrageously polarizing things in the name of "entertainment"? Maher's is. Limbaugh's is. Richards spouting off wasn't construed as either funny or part of his act. Either was Mel Gibson's Jewish rant. Yet J-Lo can shout out N******s in her songs, and it's ok b/c she's "Puerto Rican and Cubans please, they are just *****s that can swim".

Richard Pryor felt convicted using it and stopped, but many others haven't. Some rappers claim that "saying n***** makes their teeth white."

Personally, I don't like ignorance, but I think it's foolish to say that using one word to prove it is different than actions that prove it. :dunno:

So, it's not a big deal that Maher is "joking" about election intimidation and threats which is a felony.

Or, is it not a big deal that Maher is jumping into the deep end of very non-PC subject matter that normally gets deep-sixed by the left thought police: namely that black americans are much more violent and dangerous than white americans (something that is true, but cannot be discussed).

If Maher had made this joke is that not a big deal too?:

Maher: Black America: vote for Romney. The KKK knows where you live and they have their ropes and robes at the ready.

So what Maher said scared you? Are you now afraid to vote for Romney? You really feel that black people are going to get you?

Do you really think that other potential Romney voters are now not going to vote for him because they are afraid that black people are going to come after them? What percentage of voters do you honestly feel are now too scared to vote for Romney?

You're claiming what Maher said is a felony. If a bad joke is a felony I should have been arrested years ago.

It's a free country with free speech. Maher has every right to prove himself the asshole he is. Same for Limbaugh.
