Some Magic fan claims to have a source indicating that we will be sending Blake + ?? to Orlando for Marcin Gortat. The rest of his forum doesn't seem to believe him, but he's persisting that it's the case. Dare to dream?

Gortat's a BYC player so it would be pretty tough to arrange a deal that would work.

Interesting; I would have thought Blake for Bass would be the more ideal trade scenario.

I was talking about this a few days ago. Gortat is averaging few minutes in Orlando since re-signing with them and is not happy. They are down a PG again. I don't know if it would work salary wise, but I would love to see this happen.

One more thing, if mgmt thinks Pryz is gone this summer, how bout Pryz and Blake for Gortat and Bass?

I can't see why orlando would do this. Nelson isn't out for the season, and Williams has been playing the position just fine. You trade a backup C for a backup PG. Goes to the old never trade big for small. I think they also like the depth Gortat affords them in the playoffs looking ahead to facing Shaq and Bynum/Gasol. Just don't see it happening.

Couldn't happen until 12/15 anyway, but BYC is not a big deal if other contracts are included as well. For instance, Gortat/Pietrus for Blake/Webster/Pendergraph would work salary-wise, regardless of BYC status.

The Polish Hammer!

We' have two mean Polish bigs:

Gortat and Przybilla

Because unlike last year, when Nelson comes back you don't want a playing time controversy. That being said, they already have a backup PG as good as Blake behind Jason Williams. So that part of it doesn't make sense. The moving of an unhappy player is the only part that does.

Where would the playing time controversy be? I don't think Jason Williams is going to get mad that nelson is playing in front of him.

No that is what I was saying. If both guards were Wiliams and Blake, there would be no possibility of controversy when he comes back. Where when he came back last year with Raefer Alston, there was a huge controversy, especially considering the timing.

If we could get an NBA caliber player that had a pulse for Blake it would be a steal.

Too bad they will move Bayless instead. They will probably follow that up with trading Rudy for a bag of popcorn, and then we will be back where we were when we drafted Roy and Aldridge.

I believe he signed a new contract this summer.

I think Dallas signed him and Orlando matched.

If KP trades Bayless this season I am gonna be pissed.

This team wasn't, and certainly isn't now close to winning anything. Get rid of assclown and Blake, and I think we would be a lot better.

I have totally given up on Blake ever leaving. He will be a Blazer forever and start as long as Nate is here.

Yes please.

Orlando would hugely stupid to make this deal.

Gortat is a nice player and would be huge addition to Portland.

The only reason they take Blake is for cap relief. And then they would probably take both Blake and Outlaw for the 8 million they would take off the cap.

An odd idea since they could have just let Gortat walk and accomplished the same thing.

He's a BYC guy. It would be very tough to trade for him after Dec 15th

Orlando has a 6 million dollar TPE roughly, which would make a trade pretty easy between the two teams, I believe. Otherwise, Pretty sure Blake, Mills, and Pendergraph maikes it work financially.

TPE's can't be combined with other players unless the TPE deal could be done independently, so it can't help with matching salaries for BYC involved deal. However BYC deals involving lower salaries (like Gortat's) aren't too tough when another contract is included.

For instance, if (as I suggested below) he were paired with Pietrus, their total outgoing value would be about 8.8M, and our incoming would be about 11.1M. As long as what we sent back totals between 9M-11M, then we're golden. Blake/Outlaw/Rudy/Pendergraph would save them a TON of money, give them decent value, and give them a backup big to take Gortat's 15mpg once JP is healthy (late this month?).

From our perspective, it's a lot to give up, but I think it gives us a solid 9-man rotation with Miller/Bayless/Roy/Webster/Pietrus/Dante/Aldridge/Gortat/Przybilla. As much as Maris would hate it, I think it could work.

If the Blazers are going to do this I prefer one of two combos in return. Option 1 over option 2, because I believe Anderson could be the starting SF here.

1. Gortat and Ryan Anderson.
2. Gortat and Bass.

yeah, i knew that. I had been thinking we could work a deal where we sent them, say, Blake, Mills and Pendergraph for their TPE.
Then turned around and received Gortat and maybe the rights to Fran Vasquez with our cap space we created. We would need to immediately waive the TPE to have our cap space. but we currently have about 1 million in cap space. The combo of Blake, Pendy and Mills would generate another 4.9 or so. Gortat makes 5.8.

I'd rather take Bass and go small at times with Aldridge at 5, but to me any deal that moves out blake and brings in a big is great.

I just want Miller to start (and play 30 at least) and Bayless to back him up getting 15mpg a night. Then I'll be happy.

That makes a lot of sense EXCEPT that the Magic will want to keep Gortat for insurance, no matter how unhappy it makes him.
