Blake Griffin- buyout candidate

I remember people saying Batum was washed up too. A winning (or losing) environment can have a major impact.
I don't know about that comparison because Nic has so many different skills that were never reliant on his athleticism. Blake has never had good defensive instincts and is only a mediocre passer. His best strength was always as scorer but a lot of that was due to his jumping ability obviously dunking was responsible for his great efficiency and now that his legs have gone the jumper he developed has, as has been pointed out, gone flat. His other strength in his prime was rebounding but not because he had a nose for the ball or was doggedly persistent, it was again predicated on his jumping ability. The guy isn't Nic, he is actually washed up.

So would you rather have Kevin Love or Blake Griffin at this point?

For the minimum, if both were bought out? Love because he doesn't need to jump to do what he does best. Rebound, shoot and pass. Plus he is a better teammate. But I would not trade for his contract.

pretty obvious you haven’t actually watched Griffin play within the past couple of years. He hasn’t relied on his athleticism in a long time. He adapted to a different style of play, shooting in high volume, and was all nba with that style just two seasons ago. Mediocre passer? He’s one of the best passing bigs and has been for awhile. Even now, he’s probably among the top 10 best in the league among bigs.

That has disaster written all over it. Melo at 36 still helps. Blake at 32...I can't see it if he can't move. Besides Covington and Melo, I would rather divide those minutes to a young player with lots of energy. (Little and Jones)

What a disaster trade for Detroit. As I recall many Blazer fans applauded the risk Detroit took.
BonesJonez wanted to trade for him.

Blake is owed 52 mil or so over the rest of this season and next...that's a toxic contract for a guy who is fragile and has lost his explosion completely. You can trade for Lamarcus and actually end up with a better fit here.

Only thing on + is his passing. Can we have healthier big passer instead? Lots of people having hard times with Melo. Imagine this forum with Blake hitting 2/13 for 3. That would be fun. And I see, he likes to shoot some. I'm saying no to that, but sadly, I can imagine Olshey takes him and Stotts plays him over some younger player, bc he was a star some time ago. Please, no.

Drummond is probably the most gettable big on the market and Cleveland is tanking....they would trade for youth...maybe a Nas type player and Collins or Giles..I'm just not a Drummond fan at all...and he's Robin Lopez slow from what I've seen

He looked really slow the other night.

What a shell of his former self. Needs more arc on his '3'....and I don't remember that hitch at the top of his FT release. When did that start? It makes his FT very flat as well.

In the video, Griffin shoots with his wrists because his arms aren't flexible.

While watching, I compared Drummond to James Donaldson, who was monstrously big.

good comparison.

I haven't watched him this year, thought I read somewhere he hasn't dunked in over a year, which speaks to his lost athleticism. I'd be intrigued, but can't imagine he provides a whole lot more than Carmelo does, so why bother?
Damn you're right. I watched some highlights (lowlights) from some of his games this year and he's definitely hobbled and has zero lift. He looked like Zebo with no game... Sad to see since he was such a human highlight film in his career... :-(

I’m pretty sure Detroit isn’t expecting to trade him. This would be a buyout situation and then a team can sign Griffin for the vet minimum based on his years in the league.

Any GM who trades for him should be fired on the spot. He’s washed.

I can't believe Detroit would consider a buyout this year and eat the $62 million remaining on his deal, over $75 million would count towards the salary cap too. That's a pretty tough pill to swallow.

Any trade for him would likely be cap related, not for on court purposes. For example, something like Griffin for John Wall for Houston to get out of paying Wall over $47 million in two years.

Also, OKC has been extremely willing to take on salary for draft pick compensation. Griffin would help them tank and they could match his salary fairly easily with Horford and filler. Detroit would save money.

How would Detroit save money, Horford has one more year of control than Griffin.

One thing I noticed from the video I posted is "where he is playing" - he's spending a lot of time on the wrong side of the 3 point line.

He makes less this year and next year and then has a partially guaranteed the following year.

He moves like Vlad Stepania now and I’m not exaggerating!

He’s also more of a defensive liability than Enes now. LA’s decline came fast and furious.
After i read this post i decided to go look because i honestly didn't really know?
Aldridge has dropped drastically this season. In just about every category. He is starting and he has started 18 of their 27 games. The other games he didn't play. Not sure about injury?
He is only getting about 26 mins a game this year as opposed to 33 last year. So there is some of the reason the number are down.
Still i feel if you were to choose one of the three Griffin, Love or Aldridge then LMA would probably be the best fit and most productive.

fun fact. Dame has played nearly 1500 more minutes in his career (reg season + playoffs) than Blake, even if he was drafted 3 yrs later.
