Blake Griffin- buyout candidate

If any GM expects Griffin to be Draymond Green at this stage of career, that GM should be out of a job. The season is happening. This is an off-season thread, and a bad one at that.

He's literally being bought out. Lol.

And I gave my parameters. Please read them.

Here’s a trade that helps us this season and beyond:

Timberwolves trade us:

K-A Towns
E. Davis
A. Edwards!

and their 2021 #1 pick (must be Top 3 or it goes to Warriors and if the 2021 winds up going to Golden State, we instead obtain their 2022 #1 pick as fall-back option with no protections);

Trailblazers send
J. Nurkic
CJ McCollum
R. Hood

we can assess Towns this year and re-sign him if he’s a fit. If not, we have opened up cap space to re-sign Trent, Collins, etc.

Blake is dogging it in Detroit.

The Batum move that he pulled on Charlotte.

He’ll have a blatant resurgence in Portland.

Get it done, Neil!

Having watched Detroit a couple times this year (Jerami Grant is on my fantasy team) I wouldn't trade my old car for him. It went to the junk yard a few years ago following an accident, but at least it was worth $400 or so as scrap metal. He's slow, can't shoot & seemed completely disinterested... why would we want to commit a roster spot to that? I don't think he's dogging it, he's just done.

He used to be an offensive player but he’s washed up... last 38 games has a TS% of about 0.485.

So he’s not trying with a huge contract on a bad team, but he’s going to try hard on the vet minimum if he buys out his own contract for the vet minimum, off the bench in limited minutes, for a non-championship team in Portland?

God no. Stay far away. He shouldn’t get a single minute on this roster. His knees must be as bad a Brandon Roy’s at this stage of his career. Let him go to the Lakers and Mitch Richmond his way to a title and then retire.
Yes
As much as we like to look at these guys as money grubbers... that’s not always the case. He would probably like to use his body towards achieving something.
It happens a lot

oh and by the way.....
He would start here

No, no he wouldn't.

After the mutual decision by both parties, HoopsHype spoke with seven NBA executives for their thoughts on whether Griffin can be traded or what value he can bring to a playoff contender if he hits the buyout market.

“I know they’ve been trying to trade him for months and can’t find a taker,” a Western Conference executive told HoopsHype. “Part of it is Blake also saying there are certain teams he would prefer to go to. This is a weird one. Non zero chance they buy him out, which just seems crazy.”

“That likely ends up as a buyout if I had to guess,” one Eastern Conference executive told HoopsHype.

Blake is the worst NBA player I've seen this season. I'm only for acquiring him if Detroit includes their 1st.

If he only costs the Blazers a roster spot and $1 mill for the rest of this season, I say go for it to see what's left in the tank. I know he hasn't played well this season, but I really am curious to find out if he was playing this poorly because of his injury or if he no longer wanted to play for the Pistons as he wasn't a part of the plan moving forward.
Batum looked pretty awful too before he signed with the Clips.
As for where to play him, I'd start him instead of DJJ. Bring DJJ off the bench instead of Hood or Little.

Here's the thing..... Melo has dunked a lot more than Blake.... I just don't know. I think Melo is more mobile and a better player at this stage than Griffin.

I hope Neil is willing to roll the dice on Griffin.
I really want to see how he does on a winning team.
