Saw that the Blazers are doing a bracket to determine the best Blazer to pass the time during the dog days of summer. The other matchup (Clyde v. Valentine) is the usual clownstomp but Cliffy v. Ainge at least has some debate for it being a #2/#7 matchup.

Would Ainge playing more seasons here make this a closer contest? Does the play-that-shall-not-be-named in 1991 diminish Cliff's accomplishments at all in your eyes?

I go with Cliffy. He wasn't much of a shooter in the playoffs (something they didn't mention) but in a series against the Spurs Duckworth was hurt and Cliff shut down David Robinson. He was a great hustle defender and fast break player, really important in their style of play.
 
How did he drop that ball (and the title) out of bounds?! He was right there! :banghead:
 
Wasn't Uncle Cliffy part of the whole JailBlazer thing? I go with Ainge who represented the city of Portland much better

Wow, I hope your not mistaking him for bonzi wells, the other well known headband wearing blazer. This proves your blazer fandom is mediocre.

This is a tough call for me, Ainge's three point sharpshooting provided many of great memories. Personally I have to choose Cliff though since I'll never forget catching his dripping wet sweatband when I was a youngster.

Not mistaking him for anyone. I also know he wasn't part of the famed Jailblazers, but was suspended multiple times for drug use after he left Portland, and weas somehow still associated with the JailBlazers.
 
I saw a dude yesterday in a powder blue BYU Ainge jersey. I offered to buy it from him to use as beer pong garb. It was sweet!

Danny did grow up in the state, so that little feel good means something I guess. But 2 backup seasons at 20 MPG with 6 total starts vs a guy who was drafted by the club, played 8 seasons & averaged 31 MPG with 322 starts. They both scowled a lot and tied for the same amount of arrests while Blazers.

it seems a ridiculous comparison to me

Due to pressure from the Oregonian, for several years we have drafted only character guys, black and white. The definition of the word "character" is religion.

Ridiculous. My favorite players on the team are Aldridge and Batum, both black. My least favorite Blazers in recent times have been Blake, Przybilla and Babbitt, all white. I don't root for, nor am I a fan of people who smoke weed period. Nothing to do with black or white. I also don't take religion into account. Ainge is a Mormon, and Mormonism is a cult, so the religious factor you think is there, isn't
 
So because of your war on a plant, we have a character filter that prevents us from acquiring most of the good players available. This really holds us back.
 
How in any way does my dislike of using an illegal substance prevent the Blazers from signing anyone?

while representing Portland, neither was arrested for anything. Cliff did play his first 5 seasons without missing a game, was 6th man of the year in 1992-3, made the All-NBA Defensive 2nd team twice, & was an All-Star in 1994-5.

I liked Cliff. Overall, and looking back as we are doing now, I'd take Ainge over someone who was suspended from the league multiple times for substance abuse. Even though none of those happened while he was a member of the Blazers, people still associate him with the team, and it looks poorly for us because of all of the real knuckleheads that were here. I look at best Blazer differently than others, I guess, so while Cliff had easily the better Blazer on court numbers, overall, I take Ainge because of poor choices Cliff made after his time with us because those transgressions have a negative impact on the city of Portland.

I'm with the two posts following yours. Cliff's "transgressions" starting 4 years after he moved on have had zero impact or reflection on the city of Portland. Sorry, but they just don't. Equally ridiculous would be claiming the egg on Ainge's face following the Telfair for Roy trade reflects badly on his time in Portland.

It seems you've a personal issue which others might respect as your issue but not be expected to really understand or share.
