Blazer Cap-Space This Summer

Can’t believe we are still paying a Nicholson LOL

would be extremely happy with Ayton
Tying up $ for a RFA while letting Nurk/Ant dangle does not seem like a prudent move. I don't think we even bother with FAs this summer outside of MLE dudes.

Yeah I agree there might be a chance we go after someone big but more then likely were using the remaining space on good solid role players to fill in around Dame

Is Ant really good or is he putting up good numbers on a very bad team? That, to me, is the big question.

Personally, I don't want to invest in Nurk. He's too injury prone and he's too emo. It's a bad combination. I still think the right move is to just blow it up. Finish what Cronin started. Dump Dame/Nurk and see what the market is for Simons this summer.

Yeah the most realistic uses I see for cap space are two possibilities

1 Middling free agents we could snag just above the MLE offers of other teams
2 Taking on dead salary from teams trying to win with picks attached

Ultimately, I think its most likely we stay above the cap and keep all the trade exceptions.

Dumb question, but is there any way we can trade Nicholson for an expiring? He's no longer on our roster, but there must be a dead money clause somewhere in the CBA.

no.

Yeah I am kind of with Nate B on this one

I like Nurk but I feel like we are always waiting on the REAL Nurk to arrive and while he shows up maybe 5 to 10 games a season a lot of the times he is average to under whelming when I believe he could be a legit Top 5 Bigman in the league IF he commited to it but he does not. This is why the Nuggets bet on the Joker over Nurk way back then cause they saw the writing on the wall that even IF he became a good player he would never be a great one.

Agreed

I would absolutely love to see a Nurk trade in the next 22 hours. At the same time, I would love to see an Ant trade in the next 22 hours. Nurk has all of the problems that you guys are talking about and I am betting Ant has some pretty high value with some GMs right now. He won't have this high of value after we overpay him and then play him with Dame which will highlight Ant's lack of offensive versatility and terrible defense. If we're building around Dame just be smart and get the most value you can for Ant now. Also both guys are good enough to fuck up the tank on any given night.

Trade all three and build around an injured NAS.

I really would trade all three if I was the GM at this point.

I don't believe we will get the pieces requisite to make a Dame led team a contender just by clearing cap space and either hoping the world flips on its axis and we become a free agency destination or we conjure the right assets out of thin air to make unbalanced trades that bring us enough star power that fits with Dame. I think when the decision was made to value cap space above talent and draft assets when trading away the four players we did, we closed Dame's window.

I like Ant but I really believe that a couple weeks ago his trade value might have peaked for his whole career because it was higher than it probably is right now and teams that traded for him then or for the next just under 22 hours have the ability to negotiate his next contract with the advantage of restricted free agency. Even if we don't retain him I hope he proves me wrong because he's got a great attitude but I definitely know that playing next to Dame is not the best use of what he has to offer. If I was going to keep anyone it would be Ant... not to build around but to be a complementary piece around whoever I got for Dame and hopefully whoever we get in the draft.

I think Nurk is Nurk and I don't think he's a good guy to have on your team. Too much bullshit. Bullshit with his up and down attitude. Bullshit that he only plays the right way some of the time. Just bullshit. Obviously he's extremely talented and skilled he just refuses to use those talents and skills in effective ways far more consistently than he chooses to use them in the most effective ways.

There’s no way this is about cap space this is setting up for bigger trade.

With what assets? Nurk is all we have left and picks/space. Unless we are dumb AF and also trade Ant and/or Little.

Wow just nuke the site from orbit and uh hope we draft our way out? I mean you don't even want to keep Ant in the case where we trade Dame? Da fuq? Trading Dame a few days ago MIGHT have made sense. Trading Dame AND Ant is just well fuck me that's brutal and like a 7+ year plan for contention.

You'd trade Dame, Ant, Nas and/or Nurk? And rebuild with what? Picks? Hope to get lucky again over the next decade+++? Good god!

Lmao so you wouldn’t give up either of those players for superstar? We could now do Ant plus two expiring contracts plus draft picks and get player Simmons. Philly then has cap room and signs Harden in off season

Lets See.....
SacTown
OKC
Houston
Detroit
Orlando

That is the plan imo.

if we give up Ant we are back to Square one. We basically are committed to him becoming a star or giving up on Dame’s timeline. Nas I would trade for a Simmons yes.

i love Ants game and probably agree he’d be tough to give up but Little is definitely not untouchable especially for superstar. That said I would love to keep Little he’s one of my favorite players to watch on this team but again not untouchable.

These are our books on July 1.

Dame 43
Nurk (caphold) 18
Hart (partial guarantee) 13
Ant (caphold) 12
Nas 4
Winslow 4
Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9
Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9
Johnson 2.7
Louzada 1.9
Brown 1.9
Elleby (caphold) 2
Hughes (caphold) 2
Watford (caphold) 1.5

That's about 113 mil, with a possible cap of 120 mil. Essentially meaningless capspace.

But if we renounce everyone including our exceptions, we'd have:

Dame 43
Winslow 4
Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9
Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9
Johnson 2.7
Louzada 1.9
Brown 1.9

About 60 mil in capspace.

Just bringing back Nurk, Hart and Ant (which is probably most reasonable):
Dame 43
Nurk (caphold) 18
Hart 12.9
Ant (caphold) 12
Nas 4
Winslow 4
Bledsoe (non-guarantee) 3.9
Nicholson (ughhh) 2.9
Johnson 2.7
Louzada 1.9
Brown 1.9

That is about 107 mil, with about 15 mil of capspace.
so this is it.

Not much else to look forward to between now and the lottery.

Hart's contract becomes fully guaranteed two days after the draft on 6/25, and about a week BEFORE FA begins.

Bledsoe's contract becomes guaranteed six days after the draft on 6/29, 2 days BEFORE FA begins.

Considering how rampant tampering is, I hope Cronin does what we need to do to have our plan set in place for what we'll do with capspace/the TPE before these key dates.

Someone posted a Bobby Marks tweet about Bledsoe guarantee date being moved to after free agency, which would be a huge benefit if true.
