I don't think Canales is going anywhere, no matter who they hire. You do just not let a guy that loyal get away; this is the guy who says "I am a trailblazer for life".The way I see it, if this guy is on Kaleb's list of 4, then hire Clifford and keep Canales on staff as an assistant ... I know that doesn't jive with the convention of letting a HC chose his own people, but since when have the Blazers ever done anything conventionally?

Of all the criticisms that could be leveled at PA's ownership of the Blazers, "cheap" is not one of them.
Jason Quick @jwquick
The Oregonian has learned the Blazers Final Four coaching candidates: Terry Stotts, Elston Turner, Steve Clifford and Kaleb Canales
Mike Rice @mikerice6
You would think looking at the 4 finalists for blazer coach Paul Allen despises Blazers fans
Since we know that it's going to be one of the four Quick mentions...
Disagree with Rice and maris61; I think the other three candidates are actually the best available in our situation; and since Olshey knows Canales will stay no matter what; I am guessing it will be one of the other three.
Absolute nonsense.
There are over 7 billion people in the world with far less money than Paul Allen, and he has shunned every superstar player in the league for nearly 3 decades, in order to avoid paying a chump change (to him) salary cap penalty while his team wallows in and out of the cellar.
Compared to any other team owner he is the absolute cheapest of the cheap.
Bio: Clifford has coached at the high school, college and pro levels. He was an assistant coach at Saint Anselm College, Fairfield University, Boston University, Siena and East Carolina and spent four years as the head coach at Adelphi University. In the pros, Clifford spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the New York Knicks and four seasons as an assistant coach with the Houston Rockets. He joined the Magic staff before the 2007-08 season.
What he does: Clifford charts fastbreak points and second-chance points by the Magic and their opponents. For instance, if the Magic are heading into a timeout and have given up too many fastbreak points, Clifford typically will aproach assistant coach Brendan Malone, who then may say something to Stan Van Gundy.
In his words: "You can't have everybody playing Joe Head Coach. That means chaos. It's very easy if you want to talk to players [during a game] and, to me, that can be just as counterproductive as productive. I'm a big believer that the majority of the things that you're going to do as a coaching staff you're going to do before the game starts. The players should be prepared [by the coaches]. Once the game starts, if you're saying, 'Hey, look, he can shoot 3s' or 'He drives left,' you haven't done your job."
Going from Jerry Sloan to this list is a kick to the head.
It's like getting hit in the head with balls.
Sad thing is...... you actually know what that's like huh?
Saw the guy from Orlando is in town to be interviewed tomorrow afternoon.
