Are you sure? I don't think teams can amnesty a guy on a new contract.

It was a one-time amnesty for a player signed by that team under the old CBA.

You can't amnesty a player every year indefinitely.

Yeah that's what I thought... I just want the ability to amnesty one player every other year.

Luke Babbitt could be a 50% 3pt. shooter in his system. I guess my thought is if the team isn't going to compete for a title, they may as well be fun to watch, so I'm softening on D'Antoni only because of the wide-open game and PnR offense he'd bring to PDX. Hibbert not being a Blazer changes the goals of the team, as well as the style, IMO.

totally agree with everything here

Yeah, Luke could be a 50% shooter in that system..... if he could make a shot.

Mike Rice mentioned D'Antoni has a good canidate during the broadcast today, and I agree with him. Players like Mike, and fans like to watch a fast paced game.

Batum and Lillard will benefit the most from D'Antoni.

Lillard has shown he can keep his dribble alive in traffic and find the open man, the perfect PG for D'Antoni. Of course, we'll have to see if he can do this against legit NBA defenses. I try not to take too much from SPL but his skillset seems perfect for Mike.

He's been my #1 target since McMillan was fired.

They should keep Kaleb as an assistant, and hire an assistant just to focus on the defensive game plan.

Mike Dunleavy.

I don't see a risk with D'antoni. I'm pretty confident in the reasons on why he failed in New York as I'm pretty confident in the reasons on why he was highly successful in Phoenix. Distraction wise, Portland is similar to Phoenix. He can get here and focus solely on Basketball and what he does best. The nucleus here is closer and similar to the one that he had in Phoenix. The player Lillard has similar skills to Nash. Batum is similar to Shawn Marion in what he can do. LA is similar to Stoudemire in the things he can do. Matthews is a poor mans Joe Johnson, better defensively. In reality, he's probably closer to Bell but hey, he still fits into what D'antoni wants to do.

When it's all said and done, I can't see a situation with Coach D being a bust. Mike Rice said something interesting to Dwight Jaynes in Posting Up. The coach needs to believe in himself. I have no doubts D'antoni believes in himself and what his game is about. He proved this at the end of his ride with New York when he marched into the New York office and said 'that guy right there is the problem, Not me. Bring me Deron Willams'. There is no doubt he believes himself and what he can do.

Mike D'Antoni or BUST

I dunno, Non-Mike D'Antoni is looking pretty good:

I feel like such a Minnetard...

Felton looked good, but the team sucked

The team whole was looking up. They were a nice lil team before the Melo trade. They were 27-25, improving and were playing with chemistry before they made that deal. Do you think he still might be there if let's say they took that same package they traded to Denver and instead moved it to Utah for Deron Williams?

He made 43% of his 3s last year between two coaches and with a fat PG who didn't really care about playing to win. :dunno:

Yet hit 30% in a league were he was wide open a lot.

Wesley Johnson hit 47% on 3s in Summer League. He's sure to be an All-Star this year.

I respect what he says also, but he is also trying to get his guy a job.

Whatever happens, whether some of like the new coach or not, we can't say they didn't look at all their options

Who is his agent? That's going to play a part in this in the end.

Bradley Beal also hit 30% in summer league on 3s. What a fuckin' bust.

Having not seen Beal play, I can't speak for him being a bust or not. I can, however, speak of how Babbitt was horrible on defense, did not dribble very well, and did not provide anything outside of shooting 3's last year, and his supposed talent was a no show during the summer leagues.

Beal also was playing in his FIRST ever summer league. Not after being in the league for 2 years and at 23 years of age.

Beal is barely 19.

Did anyone mention that Babbitt hit 43% of his three points attempts in the NBA last season?

Yes, someone did. But since we're talking about the Summer league, I'm not sure why that keeps being brought up.

Lillard can collapse defenses with his driving ability. Luke can shoot open threes. He'll be useful in drive and kickouts. He's also shown this summer to be a nice rebounder. His handles are atrocious, however, and he needs to continue to work on his foot speed. Perhaps losing some of that baby fat may help.

I'm just clowning, but since you asked. Luke has proven to be an excellent three point shooter in the NBA. I'm not concerned one bit that he shot poorly in 4 summer league games three months before the season starts. I'm am happy that he had the confidence to keep gunning when he was shooting poorly. Granted that he needs to get better on the defensive end, so I'm hoping the next coach will straighten him out. If not he could be bouncing around rosters in no time.

I won't say there isn't a role for a guy like Babbitt who can stroke a three pointer from way downtown, but where do the minutes come from?

Nic is going to gobble pretty much all of the small forward minutes (minus about 10 a game?) Hickson and LaMarcus probably dominate most of the minutes at the 4 and Babbitt is such a liability defensively that I'm not sure you can really hide him with many of the guys currently in the front-court (LMA moved to the 5 for instance) ... Something pretty dramatic is going to have to happen in camp for there to be much of a role for him, especially with guys like Claver and Freeland pressing him for time too.

We'll see I guess.

Blazers' 2nd round interviews for coach still undecided, as agents Warren LeGarie and Steve Kauffman say their clients haven't been notified

Tick, tick, tick...

It would be nice if our new coach had time to at least meet the players and work with them a bit before the season starts so they know the offense.

Unless it's Kaleb they're going to have to change the way they play quite abruptly.
