Blazer Coverage SUCKS

Cronin copy and pasted last year's team statement, took Lillard out of the paragraph, then hit send.

It's actually shocking how little journalism exists in Portland. For a city its size and sophistication, I would have assumed better.
I blame the Disney channel. Nobody watches the dumbass news anymore.

Yeah, I know he’s not well thought of around here by many, and with some good reason. It’s still a good column though.
I was definitely making a haha funny but this brings up a good point: columns aren’t journalism the way we think of it. Quick hasn’t been much of a journalist since the behind the blinds thing but at least that was actual journalism. Investigative stuff rather than pontification (even if he’s well sourced) and all that.

Based on that definition, I don’t think The Oregonian has employed a journalist in about 30 years.

Portland has the journalistic integrity of a 590 person town with a monthly newspaper.

I was shocked not to find one of the local sports radio stations going live with the Dame news. Instead it was all Nat'l stuff , which doesn't do either side justice.

Godfather was probably in Seventh Heaven when he heard the news.

The "best" reporters are Highkin and Freeman, and that's mostly just because the others are awful.

Chad, Godfather, Marang, Quick are all awful...

Every single bit of Nat'l sports news was tainted with elation of Dame getting out of Portland. And of what compensation was coming Portland's way. Nothing of the heartbreak for Dame fans. Or the fact the GM did nothing to bring in any sort of quality veteran talent to at least try. Just, it's good he's getting the heck outta Portland. Hate that crap. They'll be saying the same thing when the youngsters get good too. Time to move on. This isn't the same era like back in the Drexler days where player movement , especially the greats , moved very often, if at all. This is the era of move once you get an itch. Media has been trying to pry Dame out of Portland for years. Looks like they're gonna get their wish. And the wish of many on S2 as well.

I disagree on Chad and Marang. Chad's only downfall is too much golf talk.

To each their own, I've not been able to stand Chad since his CIP days. He's off the charts douchy for me...

It's gonna be really tough on the Blazers Broadcasting Team. Many have very good relationships with Dame. They might be totally upset, or not, but won't be able to voice it at all.

I don't think Chad... or Jayenes... are reporters. I think they're radio columnists. They offer opinions. They don't interview the players. They don't break news.

Marang tries.... to report. Quick used to be a reporter. Highkin and Freeman are legit reporters.

I wasn't here then. i moved to Colorado. But Jaynes is the same meathead he always was.

I like Danny because he is knowledgable on cap issues , and does have relationships with insiders. Only talking about regarding Blazers though. We have different takes on football due to our favorite team differences.

They're different roles, 100% agree. Part of it is the shifting landscape of journalism as an industry. I'd bet good money that many small markets are going through similar situations.

That's fair. They're paid for their opinions.

I like Portland Sports radio better because there's access through calling shows. That doesn't happen in Denver. Denver is loaded with Ex NFL football players on the radio to go along with TV media types. They take no calls , only text. And they rarely answer them.

Many are former Broncos or Buffs, and they come off as condescending much of the time. I'm a Broncos fan but , former Bronco Mark Schlereth is one of the worst. Former Seahawk / Steeler Chad Brown was always pretty cool though. But i have a feeling if this had happened in Denver, and it involved Elway, they would have went live.

That's completely fair.

There's a huge difference between someone who just offers their opinions and someone who is essentially a beat reporter. They serve different roles. But it seems like very few of the people who offer their opinions on the team actually have any sources.

It's possible that I'm biased, having worked with a call-in show, but I find those to be, at best, wastes of everyone's time, and at worst, absolute clown shows.
