Matthews may have 20 feet of bravado trapped in a 6-foot-5 frame, but he did set the career soccer scoring record (69 goals, 35 assists) at Memorial High in Madison, Wis. Granted, his coach Ben Voss said he could have doubled his goal total if he could ever convert a breakaway, but perhaps that just speaks to his natural ability.

Lol. That has transferred over to BBall too.

Thanks for the interesting read. Nice to see something not negative or speculative!

I recall reading in the Sporting News that Rickey Henderson wanted to play football but his mother convinced him baseball meant fewer injuries. And Joe Namath wanted to play baseball but his mother wanted him to go to college, which baseball players rarely did in the 60s. Oh those mothers! Seems they sometimes do know best.

It seems now that too many kids get too specialized. There was a time when an athletic boy would be on the football and baseball teams and maybe wrestle or run track and an athletic girl would play volleyball, basketball and tennis. Nice to see some Blazers kept other interests.

I have proof that Greg Oden is excellent at checkers!

I just won Spider Solitaire after I cheated only twice.

I think everyone has an alter ego, you know, what we would be in our dreams. Guess pro athletes do as well.
