"There was no commiserate player to replace Aldridge. There were a number of teams chasing him with no other real option. They did try to recruit Greg Monroe. Greg fit both models either if LA returned or left.

Neil mentions Meyers and CJ with Dame.

Clearly the core (as identified by management) going forward is those three.

If Meyers does not start next year I will be IMMENSELY surprised.

"A lot of the success was based on chemistry." So not having all of them back affected bringing back the others.

"What would lead us to believe that losing LaMarcus left us one quick fix away?"

Mentions those three again.

CJ is a rising star.

The starters were an all-or-nothing resign scenario. If LA left, they weren't going to resign any of them.

The other players agents were informed that they would be offered if LaMarcus came back.

Neil highlighting the ability to make trades with cap room versus Free Agency.

Using cap room more for flexibility rather than just brute force buying power. Nice.

Paul and Neil went to Dallas to talk to LMA.

It wasn't difficult to sell a rebuild to Paul. Paul Allen was the the last person to call LA before this process started. They had given LA a myriad of opportunities to let them know whether he was going to commit or go elsewhere. Paul specifically call him to find out where he stood.

"I'm like a son to Arn Tellem. Our families spend time together. The longer the process went on, the more viable the Blazers became."

It wasn't a coincidence that after Ed Davis' signing there was $25.1 million dollars left. LA's cap hold was $25M. They left the window open till the last minute.

"Teams that hold on too long to something that isn't good enough are doomed to mediocrity and failure." --Paul Allen

Seems like Aldridge was wishy washy until the end, and Olshey made moves based on that.

We probably lost a lot of opportunities because Aldridge was so wishy washy.
