Blazers accidentally making play-in

Would you settle for neither? Cuz you're going to have to.

You stand a good chance of being right, but we don't know the future. We do know the lousy luck the Blazers have had, and the inability to get other stars to come here. From that assumptions are easy street. Again, we don't know the future. We have the best chance for change now. I'm going to choose to be optimistic.

As players, you play to win the next game. As fans, rooting for losses in hopes of a slight improvement in draft position simply isn't rational.
I would not say that moving from the 11th-12th pick, with very little chance of winning the lottery, to 5th-6th place with a much-improved chance of winning a top-4 pick is a "slight improvement." I would say it's a major improvement.
In the last lottery, the 7th team moved up to the 4th pick, and the 5th team moved up to the 3rd pick.
The Blazers used the #7 pick to trade for Brandon Roy, the #4 pick to trade for Lamarcus Aldridge, and picked Damian Lillard at number 6.

Ive got a buddy in Sac that says that very thing to me ever year, once it appears they have zero chance at contending he jumps on the tank train. Its always this is the year we contend and they havent been to the playoffs since 2006. I give him a hard time about it in fun and he comes back by saying its more important to get that one player than make the playoffs and I tell him that kind of thinking has cursed his team.
And if we had endured multiple years of tanking, I wouldn't be on board with doing it again. But we're not in that situation. We're in a situation where we're sacrificing one year for the purpose of improving assets for the hope of changing our trajectory. It's a shot worth, despite the naysayers' protestations.

Going to be interesting to see how it all plays out including if there will be a new GM or not before Draft.

If Simons is really coming back, we might make play-in in my opinion. Some of you assume NOP and SA have what it takes to beat us.

Most should assume NOP and SA has what it takes to beat us. We are rolling out the worst roster in the league, boarding the worst roster in NBA history right now. Ant doesn't take the worst roster in the league and make it a playoff team on his own.

It's not the worst roster on the league if Ant is playing. Especially if Winslow comes back too.

So you wonder if the team that beat the Jazz tonight is good enough to hold off the team who lost to the Jazz by 50 because Ant/Winslow could make them a real threat?

Happy to wager on this if you really believe it (I suspect you don't).

I do. One game has nothing to do with another and you know that. But it doesn't matter. It turns out Ant is not playing tomorrow.

I'm glad to see your blind optimism is back! Please bump this thread come April.

Please make this a permanent quote at the bottom of your posts. It would be hilarious on about half of your posts.

"One game has nothing to do with another and you know that"

that should be a permanent banner across the top of every game thread

It was the particular poster that posted it though that was truly amazing. The King of drawing conclusions from a single win or loss.

I think someone accidently made a thread saying the Blazers are accidently making the play-in. Had to be an accident.

i think the three games vs the Spurs will effectively end our chances of sniffing the play in

That 5 game road trip at the end of the season will be interesting to see play out. Including the back to back against SA in Texas.

We're not going to accidentally make the play in. We're going to duck under the Spurs and the Kings who are both still playing to win and both have a good chance of passing the Pelicans or Lakers because unlike us the Spurs and Kings have healthy rosters that if they can put it together are just as good as the Pelicans without a healthy Zion or the Lakers without AD. So while we've obviously already made the conscious choice to get as many losses as we can and the best draft pick possible the Spurs and Kings both have their core players that they'll have next season healthy and therefore will want to see what they can do or at least that's what they've shown to this point.

Where did you get all this front office knowledge about the Spurs and Kings and what their plans are? I just don't think the Spurs and Kings are as good as you think they are.

No front office knowledge, it's just obvious that they're playing all of their best guys big minutes and getting close to wins. You can definitely disagree with me and think they're not good enough to get the 3-6 wins to pass us in the standings but they're obviously playing to either win or just see what it is they have.

If Spurs are trying to win, they're doing a bad job. They've lost 7 of their last 9 and their All Star Murray sat out two of the losses. As for the Blazers, in the last two games, we were clearly trying to win and the coach is definitely trying to see what it is they have. How are the Spurs different than us in that regard? We'll see what happens. I honestly have no idea how it will shake out but I definitely don't assume the Spurs will beat us three times.
