The San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers nearly completed a blockbuster trade on Wednesday afternoon, but the deal fell apart in the late stages. San Antonio was prepared to ship Tony Parker and the #29 pick to Portland in exchange for Andre Miller, Nicolas Batum and the #21 pick, but the trade died when the Spurs insisted that Richard Jefferson somehow be included in the deal. Other players would have been included in the trade to make salaries work. Talks have quieted for now, but they could pick back up tomorrow if one of the teams has a change of heart.

Holy shit....i would have done the trade with taking on Jefferson...but maybe im dumb

I want Parker, but not at the price of giving up Batum and taking Jefferson's contract.

Richard Jefferson isn't even a bad player

He does make too much though

I really like Tony Parker for this team because he's much faster on the break than Andre Miller, he's a better scorer, he's better at finishing at the rim, etc

Tony Parker has consistently lived in the paint the last 5 or so years. He's led all guards in pts in the paint I believe. This guy knows how to get in the lane and finish.

$9,282,000

$10,164,000

$11,046,000

No fucking way. I'm glad Paul Allen didn't sign off on Jefferson.

It's going to come down to if the Spurs value a lottery pick over Batum

We shall see

Salary aside, Jefferson and Batum are very similar players. Both were absolute disasters in the playoffs this year and inconsistent in the regular season.

If it weren't for that last player option season for Jefferson, this would have been a great trade.

Jefferson used as a 6th man type would be a great role for him imo. He likes to score and he looks for his shot. Certainly way more polished on offense than Nic as of right now.

That contract though...

If it were Parker/Blair/Jefferson for Batum/Miller/Camby/#21 then sign me up. Works under the cap.

Parker this year...Harris in others...Brooks last year...

It is a little mystifying why POR cannot seem to close big deals with other teams....

Nearly completed, and the parties don't agree on whether Richard Jefferson should be included in the deal? To me that says "not anywhere near nearly completed".

barfo

We already have a 6th man who likes to score and looks for his shot.

Jefferson shot over 40% from 3 last season. That could have helped.

I understand why the Blazers passed though, Camby or Matthews would have to be included, or a 3rd team would have had to take Jefferson for expirings - probably something no one wanted to do.

Fail!!!!

If you wanna play with the big boys, you have to be willing to experience a little bit of pain. Fucking amateurs. I guess they like first round and out

It's certainly a helluva comfort zone based on most of this franchise's history.

Jefferson only has 2 years plus a player option. He makes less than max money, and last season averaged 11/4 and shot .440 from 3

You guys making fun of our front office could at least criticize them based on the things said in the rumors.

So if the Spurs insisted Jefferson be included, it means the Blazers would have to include one of Camby, Matthews, Wallace, Aldridge, or Roy. Roy and Aldridge wouldn't be included for obvious reasons, so would you entertain taking on Jefferson by adding Camby, Matthews, or Wallace?

Parker, Crash and LaMarcus... along with hopefully Oden and a little bit of Roy would be sweet. Get 'er done Chad.

Yeah, not sure I understand. I want Parker, and like the original deal. Adding something like a Wallace for Jefferson swap? I dunno about that.

Include Jefferson if that's what it takes. He's not so bad and in a couple years he'll be an expiring contract and we can try to trade him for another Gerald Wallace or Tony Parker!

parker/jefferson/29 for camby/miller/batum/21?

parker/??
roy/wes/rudy
crash/jeffers
lma/??
oden/??

eh, kinda thin up front

My comment wasn't about this front office and its competence (or lack thereof?) I was simply clarifying that I don't think the team "likes" being one and done so much as they tend to gravitate there.

As for the inclusion of Camby or Wesley or some such to take on Jefferson's contract I don't know if I would do that or not (maybe?) ... but Wallace would be too rich for my blood.
