Winning is fun. That's what I like. And we're the best team in the West. Why complain? To each his own, I guess. Go become a Grizzlies fan.

Hey look, they are headlining our record on NBA.com. I hope we get the actual nba record for a game sometime this year. I'm going to check and see how we're doing as far as setting the record for 3s in a season.
 
So NY actually set the record last year with 891 3 pointers made on the season. So they averaged 10.9 makes per game, after tonight, the Blazers are averaging 10.6, so we're not quite on pace, but we're shooting the highest 3pt% of any team this season.
 
...Trip City rains so many 3's may as well be called Splash City now!

Actually it's even more extreme than that.

If you assume an offensive rebounding rate of 25% on missed 2's and 3's and you ignore fouls and turnovers then 43% on 3's is equivalent to 69.5% on 2 pointers.

This is due to the fact that 3-pointers miss more, causing more offensive rebounding chances and more offensive rebounds, and thus more shot attempts per possession.
 
Our ORB% is pretty low (more like 15-20% depending on the lineup) but the point stands. Wessy's eFG% is 60.4%, and Lillard is 51.8%... Batum's is 56.7%. All of which will go up after tonight's game gets counted in the cumulative stats.
 
OP acts like this is just a bunch of guys jacking up contested 3's... You're ignoring what happens before the shot goes up. It's actually a beautifully designed offense where everybody contributes.

I'd personally rather watch that than isolation plays by a shooting guard who is only seeking to draw fouls, which is much of the NBA.

Man, there was a play last night in the first quarter (probably more than one, but one I recall) that was just beautiful--entry pass to the high post, kick back out, swing around to a wide open corner three--everyone touched the ball, it never hit the floor, and the defense was thoroughly discombobulated trying to rotate and cover everyone. The arena was basically like, "yay, another three" and then look back to their nachos and beer, but I was damn near giddy with excitement over the precision and excellence of the play. My wife looked at me like I had two heads, but whatever--I know what I like, and great ball movement and execution fit the bill.

Completely agree...they had Charlotte (a pretty good defensive team) running around from station to station trying to get guys off the three point line.

Your concern for my plight is truly touching.

To be fair to the OP though, the Blazers did suck any drama out of the game pretty early by draining their first 7 treys. If they'd have missed a couple, the game might have been a little more exciting. Hell, they had McMuffins by the end of the 3rd quarter. As it was, the only thing my kids had to root for was the franchise record for threes.

I don't think the Suns comparison is all that good. Sure, they shot a lot of 3s. But Nash also got them a ton of easy dunks. We rarely score in the paint, and that's what's going to cause us problems in the Playoffs. Teams will figure out how to clamp down on the perimeter, knowing that we aren't adept at passing the ball into the paint - or even dribbling the ball into the paint.
During blowouts like last night it sure would be nice if we used the game as a "live practice" to work on things we don't do well now, but that we'll need to do well once the Playoffs start. Instead of jacking up 30+ 3-pointers last night we should have been practicing plays to get lay-ups and dunks off of passes. Unlike the OP, I actually do like watching 3-point barrages when they're on the cusp of setting a record. However, I'd much rather only win by 8 and work on our deficiencies, than win by 30 doing the only thing our offense is designed to do.

Wow, worst post timing EVER! I almost feel sorry for you, but you got what you deserved. You play to your strengths, and our strength is 3-point shooting. We don't just make a lot of threes, we have the highest 3FG% in the league. After last night's game, Lillard is leading the league in 3FG with 108 on 3FG% = .450 and Wes is 4th in 3GG while shooting 3FG% = .443. Those numbers are outstanding. To be shooting such high percentages while shooting so many threes is truly amazing.

But, it's by design. Our roster has been constructed and our offense designed specifically to create and knock down open 3-pointers. Do you think it's just coincidence that the two veterans Olshey picked up over the summer both have a history of being excellent 3-point shooters? Do you think it's also coincidence that we are leading the league in 3FG%. Of course not. Stotts has designed an offense specifically to create enough ball movement and player movement to lead to open looks at the 3-point line. The players have bought into his system and we are seeing the result. We are leading the league in 3FG%, 3FG/G and also happen to be in first place in the highly competitive Western Conference. Sorry you don't find that fun to watch. I do. This is the most fun I've had being a Blazer fan since the early 1990s. Rather than fret over how they're winning, why not just enjoy the victories? Winning is fun, much more fun than losing, no matter how you're doing it.

Yes this is a great point and often overlooked. When you make a two pointer the opponent gets the ball 100% of the time.

If by “pretty low” you mean the #5 best offensive rebounding team in the NBA at 29.1% then yes you are correct.

I think the 1995 Rockets team is a pretty comparison. They jacked up about 21 per game and made around 37% of them. Like Portland, their roster was littered with shooters, and always had 3 guys on the court who could stroke it. Similar to Portland, the three pointers were a function of free ball movement, not isolation plays. And of course, like Portland, they had a dominant inside player that made it all work.

Except we really don't have a dominant inside player. I'm hoping that LMA will dominate the paint late in the season to get ready to live in the paint in the POs - because he can dominate the paint at times. But he's definitely not dominating the paint right now. He leads the league in FGA by 83, yet there are 35 guys who take more shots <5' of the hoop (and 41 guys, with >100 FGA, who shoot a better percentage). For someone who is 7' tall, leading the league in FGA, that's just not right. But maybe it's part of a larger plan to keep our players fresh for the end of the season and the Playoffs. I would LOVE to see Stotts throw in a whole new wrinkle to the offense late in the season - "Aw, we're just futzing with you guys - HERE'S our full offense!". I'm just a little concerned that what we see is what we get - it's great for the regular season, but I don't know if I buy it as a legit title-threat.

is it wrong to ask the team to get to the paint/line and draw fouls? turn down a couple 3's?

and no last night wasn't fun. it was over by the 1st quarter. sure i watched the whole thing and cheered when they dropped the 3.
But it's not going to happen every night where you hit 21 3's. especially against a good defensive team. don't even bother with the bobcats saying they're good in that area.
either last night was an aberration. or the bobcats are an east team who cant play defense against top competition.

I believe that he was saying that some forum people are the property of Nazis. Personally, although Denny can be a bit dictatorial at time, I don't think I'd call him a Nazi.
