Blazers at Mavs 1/30/2010 GAME THREAD

I still don't get why we went for a 3 for our last shot, when we had a 2 point lead. And why have Blake shoot it? Did Nate draw that play up? If so, it's mind-boggling.

Looked like a broken play, they clogged the middle at first.

I can see the thinking though.

Bayless is most effective when he has the ball in his hands. Driving to the rim, or pulling up if his shot is falling.

With Miller handling the rock, you want a spot up shooter out there. I suppose Nate either thought Blake is a more reliable shooter than Bayless, and Rudy; or that he's a better defender. Or both.

I think Bayless is the better defender, although, can be a little careless at times. Better shooter than Bayless, yes, but Bayless' drive to get 2 free throws is what he could have done the whole overtime period, besides Blake was choking as much as Aldridge, so I don't think he should have played in the OT imo. What's done is done, I am just happy we won despite some not so good play of Aldridge.

Bayless with the highest plus/mnius with +20. But Batum with the lowest -10. Interesting.

OUTSTANDING! Now if we can beat OKC on Monday, we are back in business!

Funny tweet I just read:

MAD_Marvin #90stweet Jason Kidd is playing for the Mavericks, Flannel is cool, Juwan Howard is scoring points, all these are true today.

Our 2 rookie 2nd rounders had 2 blocks a piece. Cool
LaMarcus had 4 rebounds in 47 minutes. Not cool

We were 0-3 this year so not since last year have we won a OT game.

Looks like we had lost 7 straight OT games. The last time we won was Nov 6, 2008. Every Blazer fan should remember that victory- it was the night when Roy hit the miracle 35 footer at the buzzer against the Rockets on TNT.

I love OT victories!

Man, they needed this win.

Miller was nuts tonight. The 1st shot he took in the game missed everything - ugly. But after that, he couldn't miss anything,

Good, scrappy win and finally a close-out, courtesy of Howard.

Nice coaching job tonight by Nate.

Carlyle stubbornly refused to adjust to Miller's advantage, and Nate wisely kept ramming him down Dallas's throat.

Pretty amazing win. Finally they closed out a close win, after a bunch of close losses.

Miller wasn't a bad pick-up.

Batum has now looked exceptional in every game since he returned, in one way or another. He's flashing remarkable ability. If he can put it all together consistently long-term, he's going to be a beast.

I don't know if he will, but I love that Portland gets to reap the rewards if he does.

I can only assume you didn't actually watch the game. Carlyle threw everyone he had at Miller. He had Shawn Marion, his best defender, on Miller during the entire overtime and Miller didn't miss once.

BNM

God this game sounds epic.... Please tell me they are showing it again at midnight...

I'm definitely watching this again. Epic.

I'm so bummed I had to miss this game and I don't have comcast ... ah well.

OMG, I love this guy:
Nicolas Batum played mature and heady defense on Dallas 7-footer Dirk Nowitzki, helping force the All-Star into misses at the end of regulation and twice at the end of overtime.

Batum, who was playing in his fourth game after missing 45games recovering from shoulder surgery, had extra motivation and preparation for his big defensive moments.

It was Nowitzki last March who injured Batum's shoulder, grabbing it and pulling it back as he ran past Batum in a game at the Rose Garden.

"I was looking forward to this game juuuuuust a little bit," Batum said with a smile.

He said he was prepared for the offensive repertoire Nowitzki threw at him.

"I studied tapes and knew that he always dribbled left, left, pump fake, spin," Batum said. "Every time. So I just watched the ball -- not him at all, just the ball -- and when he shot I raised my hands, because there is no way you can block him."

On the game's final attempt, Nowtizki threw in an added twist -- a lean-in toward Batum to try and coax a foul. But Batum was prepared and leaned back to avoid the contact.

"I had 45 games with nothing to do," Batum said. "So I just watch film."

Sounds like Nico played some stellar man D on the big Kraut ... it almost makes up for the blitz in 1940.
